He wants to “shake up this world!”
He returned in his usual fashion, promising to “shake up this world!” in a string of contentious posts.
In violation of military convention, the 50-year-old army general has been more active in politics, rekindling discussions about his aspirations to succeed his father, who has held the position since 1986.
The general has come under fire from critics for remarks he made on social media that touched on topics that are prohibited for a serving soldier.
In a tweet on January 5, he threatened to decapitate Bobi Wine, the nation’s top opposition figure, which infuriated many.
Gen. Kainerugaba made his comeback on Thursday, announcing on the microblogging site that Uganda’s security forces must immediately detain any opposition leader they see wearing anything that looks like the nation’s military uniform.
According to the general in charge of Uganda’s land troops, “and those who do not respect this order…have their own problems,” he continued.
Threat to expel U.S. diplomat who failed to “salute” him
Additionally, he threatened to expel an unidentified U.S. envoy, claiming that he had failed to “salute” the general.
“My only problem is the U.S. Defense Attachè. If I find him anywhere…and he doesn’t stand up and salute me… I will arrest him on the spot!!,” he threatened.
The general also questioned what the BBC “said about me,” alluding to the news outlet’s coverage of his resignation from X last week.

Second time of returning to X in three years after quitting
In three years, this is the second time Gen. Kainerugaba has left the social media site before coming back.
He quit X in 2022 but returned days later, constantly lashing out at other countries with threats of invasion and causing mayhem.
He gained notoriety in October of that year when he threatened to invade nearby Kenya in a string of tweets. His father was compelled to intervene and issue an apology.
There was a lot of outrage in the nation after Gen. Kainerugaba threatened to “cut off” Bobi Wine’s head, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi.
However, Bobi Wine could not take such threats lightly, despite the general’s apology for the tweet, which he regarded as a joke.
As of Thursday evening, General Kainerugaba, his followers had reached over 1,000 followers, a staggering contrast to his previous 1 million plus followers. He invited his supporters to follow him back in his message of return.
“I want all my people back. Bring them all back!”
