Qualcomm and Meta collaborate to provide metaverse experiences

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, and Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon announced a multi-year partnership to develop metaverse experiences based on Snapdragon extended reality (XR) platforms and technologies for the Meta Quest platform during the 2022 IFA keynote.

The agreement clarifies that both companies are still committed to making better devices and experiences supported by unique VR platforms for many years. The companies have worked on cutting-edge virtual reality (VR) innovations for more than seven years, most recently with Meta Quest 2.

It is expected that the partnership will make it easier for the two companies to deliver several chipsets—powered by Snapdragon XR platforms and technology—for our future roadmap of Quest products,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta. “As we continue to build more advanced capabilities and experiences for virtual and augmented reality, it has become more important to build specialized technologies to power our future VR headsets and other devices.”

Building virtual reality is not like making a mobile phone. It has new, multidimensional challenges in terms of spatial computing, cost, and form factor. These chipsets will help us keep pushing virtual reality to its limits and deliver awesome experiences.
