The cost of internet connectivity and services in Nigeria was found by a group of analysts from Picodi to be one of the highest.
US plans for 100 Mbps internet cost an average of $46.40, and plans for 1 Gbps broadband are rare. Nigeria has some of the highest internet prices in the world.
The poll found that 100 Mbps is the most common speed worldwide, even though 85 Mbps is the average. Nigerian internet service providers usually offer speeds of 100 Mbps. Nigeria’s 100 Mbps internet costs $46.4 monthly, more than other countries.

Pricier study
The cost study looked at $20-a-month internet bandwidth in several countries. Nigerians can get 15 Mbps of internet for $20 a month. It is placed below Nigeria by only Venezuela and Tajikistan.
The study also found that gigabit internet prices have decreased by an average of 15% in the last four years. One Gbps internet plans are still not very popular in Nigeria, though.
Picodi says the study looked at the biggest ISPs that offer unlimited home internet access through fibre or the most cutting-edge technology in each country.
It says, “The prices in our ranking are good even after the sale ends.” We left out deals with different services, like internet and TV or internet and access to paid membership services.
Also, we didn’t include smaller ISPs that only serve a few cities or areas. In cases where renting a router cost extra, we added that cost to the internet prices. The paper says, “The price differences for 1 Gbps bandwidth in 2023 and 2019 were worked out in local currencies.”

According to the survey, the average internet speed worldwide is 85 Mbps, yet the top streaming platforms only need 15–50 Mbps to broadcast 4K UHD movies.
The survey found that 100 Mbps costs the most in Norway ($79.4/month), Iceland ($62.1/month), and Australia ($61.8/month). However, Russia ($5.6/month), Ukraine ($6.1), and Romania ($6.4) had the lowest 100 Mbps bandwidth prices.
The list showed that 34 countries, including most of Western Europe, Canada, South Africa, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand, are no longer on the list of places where internet service providers don’t offer $20-a-month plans.
The study looked at countries with unbelievably fast internet, like those where ISPs offer 1Gbps. It found that in some of these countries, having such high bandwidth is a luxury that only a few can afford: The fastest internet speed, 1 Gbps, costs $100 or more in places like the Philippines, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela.
There aren’t many places in Nigeria that offer 1 Gbps internet.
The 31st lowest data cost in the world was Nigeria, according to cable.co.uk. At an exchange rate of N1000, 1GB of data costs $0.39 in the country.
The country is among those with affordable data, yet it has considerable discrepancies. In Nigeria, 1GB of data costs $0.13 to $1.64, demonstrating various price possibilities.
