Namibia adopts digital tools for pathology testing

Namibia’s Institute of Pathology (NIP) is revamping the health sector by distributing 370 tablet devices to clinics nationwide.

This project streamlines pathology test results retrieval, lowering patient wait times. NIP’s five-year Integrated Strategic Business Plan, Za Tuka, includes digital transformation to boost operating efficiency and ease access to laboratory results, particularly in distant areas.

According to NIP CEO Kapena Tjombonde, once tests are completed, results will automatically upload to the system, allowing clinics to access them via the newly distributed tablets.

So far, 170 tablets have been deployed, with plans for an additional 200. This rollout aims to improve patient care and positions NIP as a future-ready organisation focused on integrating technology into healthcare services.

Revolutionising healthcare delivery with technology

The launch of these tablets is especially important for outlying health institutions, where timely medical information has always been difficult to obtain. By guaranteeing effective service even in underprivileged locations, NIP is closing important gaps in the delivery of healthcare.

The tablets will improve the treatment and decision-making process by giving medical professionals instant access to patients’ test results.

This program follows best practices in pathology worldwide and demonstrates NIP’s dedication to enhancing health outcomes in Namibia.

The institute’s goal is to develop a healthcare system that is more responsive to patients’ needs and places a higher priority on their health and safety by utilising technology. This digital transformation is currently in progress, and it promises to enhance efficiency and ensure a healthier future for all Namibians.
