Elon Musk To Unveil Different Colors For Twitter Verification

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has revealed that there are plans to roll out a variety of colours of verification badges on the microblogging network for accounts belonging to companies and governments.

Musk said in a tweet that government accounts would have a verification badge of grey colour, company accounts would have a verification badge of gold colour, and individual accounts would still use the badge of blue colour. He also noted that the colour gold would be used for verification badges for government accounts.

The CEO of Twitter had earlier announced that until there is a high level of confidence, that impersonation will be stopped, the $8 payment for the “blue tick” badge will be required. He also stated that this was a need.

Responding to Crypto King’s tweet, Musk Tweeted, “Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.”

“Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.

Painful but necessary.”

 

Musk indicated that other people would display a secondary, smaller logo to show that they are part of a group if it were proven that they are part of that organisation.

Before, the paid blue tick verification badge on the site was given away for free to a select group of well-known personalities and organisations.

However, once Musk acquired the platform, in order to broaden the scope of the business’s revenue streams, he was forced to implement a payment price of $8 for the verification badge. This was done in an effort to diversify the company’s revenue streams.

Musk persisted in carrying out the plan in spite of the pushback he received on the suggestions to charge for the feature. In a tweet, he explained why he intended to implement his proposal to charge users for the verification badge by stating that “we need to pay the bills somehow.” He also stated that this was the only method available to “defeat the bots and trolls.”

Other Benefits of Twitter Verification 

In a conversation on Twitter, Musk stated that users who subscribe to the new Blue service would also receive priority in replies, mentions, and search results. Users will also be exposed to 50 per cent fewer advertisements and have the ability to upload longer audio and video clips. It was not announced when the modifications would take effect.

After being hit with a lawsuit for not doing enough to prevent the platform from being used by imposters and parody accounts, the platform responded to celebrity concerns about impersonation in 2009 by introducing a verification process known as the blue tick. This was done as a direct result of the lawsuit.

Hope for Suspended Twitter Accounts As Elon Musk Offers General Amnesty

Following Elon Musk’s announcement of a broad amnesty for suspended Twitter accounts, the social media site issued a warning that “superspreaders of hate” will return to the network.

Musk began a Wednesday survey to determine whether or not a universal amnesty should be extended to accounts under the condition that they have not “broken the law or engaged in egregious spam.” Musk did not elaborate on which laws he was referring to. The poll tallied more than 3.1 million responses, with 72 per cent of respondents expressing support for amnesty.

Musk’s announcement came days after he unlocked the account of US rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, who was sanctioned for posting antisemitic comments last month. He also reinstated the accounts of Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson and former professional kickboxer Andrew Tate, both of whom were banned from Twitter in 2017 due to their extreme misogynistic views.

The Center for Countering Digital Hate is a campaign organisation that stated “superspreaders” of hateful content would benefit from the move and urged advertisers, many of whom have already paused spending on the platform, to stop funding Twitter.
