Kenya Revenue Authority, KRA advises paying taxes with PRN

Kenyans can now only pay taxes via phone with Government PayBill. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) advised paying taxes with the Payment Registration Number (PRN) or Ref. Number on KRA Business Systems’ Payment Slips: iTax, ICMS, EGMS, and KESRA IStudent.

President William Ruto ordered in June that all non-designated government PayBill Numbers should be closed and a single payment tool should be used instead. All departments were told to switch to the new PayBill Number, 222222.

The President says the move is part of the government’s plan to get all government services on e-Citizen. He said the plan would keep e-Citizen as the Digital Payments tool and make 222222 the only tool for paying bills.

The last day to make this change was Aug. 8, 2023, Tuesday. Some government offices, like KRA, had, however, put off their migration. As expected, KRA’s news comes soon after the heads of 17 agencies were called in to explain why they didn’t follow the president’s orders. The tax office has been forced to follow the rules.
