Hackers stole N180 million from my NGO: VeryDarkMan claims

Social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on Friday claimed “N180 million is missing” from his

NGO bank account following an attack by hackers

In an Instagram video posted on Friday, VDM raised alarm over the activities of hackers who carted tens of millions of naira from his NGO website which he opened to fight injustice in the society.

According to VDM, the funds had been diverted to an unknown account and security agents were on top of the matter.

“I’ve not been myself these past few days. Somebody hacked into the NGO website, and N180 million is missing,” VeryDarkMan claimed on Friday.

“Thankfully, we’ve tracked the person, and one suspect has been arrested. The account is now on PND (Post No Debit). There’s N20 million left, while N160 million was diverted. We’re heading to Jos to recover the money,” he added.

VDM disclosed that the NGO app had been temporarily shut down for maintenance to prevent further breaches and assured his followers that updates on recovery efforts would be provided.

In October, VDM launched the Martins Vincent Osei Initiative, which garnered over N30 million in donations shortly after its inception. Music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, contributed N100 million to the initiative.

VDM’s revelations have sparked mixed reactions online, with some users punching holes in his claims, while others offered him words of encouragement.

Nigerian cryptocurrency entrepreneur Blord (@realbitcoinlord) slammed VDM and labelled him a “criminal” adding that his hacking claims were false.

“Criminal!!! You are telling fools. I understand you can link bank acct to website via API. Now the question is what is the daily limit of the acct? The acct in question is a personal acc, and it won’t be more than 10m daily. Big thief, you learn from your useless mama,” Blord tweeted on Friday.

@retweet_repostz questioned VDM’s claims, stating, “Firstly you(sic) not even sure how much. You said 180 in the video and wrote here 160. Secondly, is the money on the website or in a bank? I don’t expect this prank from you.”

But users like @Mrbrave900 encouraged the controversial influencer tweeting “you will surely recover it, we are with you 💪💪💪.”

Similarly, @ndictmedia wrote “You will get yourself soon; we got hope and confidence you will recover it. The N160 million will surely come back to the NGO bank account. We trust you and your honesty and believe you are saying the truth.”

Conversely, some users have expressed scepticism about his claims like @TheDaniForeign remarked, “If na me be Don Jazzy, I go tell VeryDarkMan make me refund my ₦100 million.”

VDM remains hopeful about recovering the stolen funds as he travels to Jos to track the hacker or hackers.
