With effect from September 1, 2024, the Federal Government has approved an increase in the fees for the Nigerian passport.
The Nigeria Immigration Service’s spokesman, Kenneth Udo, revealed this in a statement posted on the NIS’s X handle on Wednesday.
According to Udo, the increase aims to guarantee the integrity and quality of the Nigerian Standard Passport.
“The Federal Government has approved an upward review of the passport fees, effective September 1, 2024, as part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport.”

According to the review, a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity that was previously priced at N70,000 will now cost N100,000, while a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity that was previously priced at N35,000 will only cost N50,000.
The NIS promised Nigerians its “unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times,” even as it expressed remorse for “any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants.”
Computerised passport application process
Nigerians can now easily apply for passports online thanks to the Federal Government’s establishment of the passport application portal through the Ministry of Interior.
In December 2023, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Interior Minister, declared that the Federal Government was striving to establish an utterly computerised passport application process for the nation.
The minister indicated at the time that the automated application procedure was “99 per cent done” and that uploading passport images and accompanying documentation would be part of the process.
According to him, Nigerian applicants would have to pay N35,000 for 32-page passports with a five-year validity and N70,000 for 64-page passports with a 10-year validity.
Applications from overseas applicants will cost $130 for passports with a five-year validity period and 32 pages or $230 for passports with a 10-year validity period and 64 pages.
