Ethio telecom unveils electric vehicle charging station in Ethiopia

On Tuesday, Ethio Telecom launched a new ultra-fast EV charging station on both sides of the Bole to Megenagna route in Addis Ababa, marking a daring move in Ethiopia’s expanding EV ecosystem.

According to Ethio Telecom’s statement released on Tuesday, its mission as a premier provider of digital solutions and its tagline, “Bringing New Possibilities,” are in line with this initiative.

Simultaneous charging of 32 vehicles

The station’s three charging modalities allow it to charge up to 32 electric vehicles at once, giving drivers efficiency and convenience.

Depending on the vehicle’s capabilities, the efficient chargers can recharge batteries at a rate equal to one km per second.

Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), they optimise power delivery and charging speed according to user preferences and the needs of each vehicle’s battery. This guarantees quicker, more intelligent, and more energy-efficient charging, improving the user experience in general.

With the station’s eight ultra-fast chargers (up to 600 kW), which can fully charge eligible vehicles in 15 minutes, drivers on the go can quickly refuel.

It also consists of twelve 500 kW Super-Fast Chargers which provide high-speed charging with maximum accessibility, enabling drivers to resume driving as soon as possible.

Additionally, it includes smart pole chargers, which are Level II chargers situated along different routes and are integrated into smart city infrastructure and also offer drivers in need of emergency charging options.

Charging services payment through Telebirr SuperApp

Telebirr SuperApp, Ethio Telecom’s digital payment platform, powers the charging station, which is open around the clock.

Telebirr allows users to pay for charging services in a quick, simple, and convenient manner.

Telebirr allows drivers to independently charge their cars, guaranteeing a smooth, cashless transaction experience.

Real-time tracking and effective management with the Telebirr SuperApp are made possible by Smart Online Monitoring, which guarantees smooth connectivity over fibre, 4G, or 5G networks.

Ethio Telecom’s commitment to revolutionise transport system

Ethio Telecom is still dedicated to using digital innovation to create intelligent, effective, and future-ready infrastructure as the country speeds up its shift to a green economy and sustainable mobility.

This incredibly quick EV charging station demonstrates Ethio Telecom’s commitment to revolutionising Ethiopia’s transport system with innovative technologies and digital solutions.
