Kenyan startups BuuPass and FlexPay on Friday announced a partnership to simplify travel for Kenyans during the holiday season. This collaboration addresses many financial challenges when booking trips, especially during peak travel times.

Innovative payment solutions

BuuPass, established in 2016 by Sonia Kabra and Wyclife Omondi, has revolutionised travel planning by enabling users to search, compare, and schedule tickets through a digital platform.

With over 16 million tickets sold and $100 million in total sales, BuuPass has established itself as a leader in the region’s mobility marketplace.

FlexiblePay allows travellers to save for their trips in reasonable, interest-free instalments over 4-12 weeks. This allows families to get tickets early and avoid price increases.

Sonia Kabra expressed the significance of this collaboration: “By partnering with FlexPay, we’re giving travellers the flexibility to budget for their trips in advance. This initiative aligns with our mission to make travel accessible to everyone”.

FlexPay, founded by Richard Machomba, provides a platform for merchants to offer interest-free savings options.

Machomba emphasised that this partnership aims to empower individuals and make travel more accessible during financially stressful times: “By partnering with BuuPass, we’re making travel more accessible and stress-free for Kenyans”.

Empowering travelers

This partnership meets immediate travel needs and promotes financial planning among Kenyans. Allowing users to save gradually empowers travellers to book trips without resorting to high-interest loans or depleting their savings.

The initiative reflects BuuPass’s broader strategy of enhancing customer satisfaction through innovative solutions that integrate financial tools with travel services.

This partnership stands out as a beacon of support for many Kenyans who are looking for affordable travel choices at a time of high demand.

The ability to pay a small deposit upfront and spread the remaining balance across manageable instalments is particularly beneficial for families and groups planning holiday trips.

BuuPass and FlexPay’s connections will revolutionise African travel payments, making it easy for more individuals to travel without financial burden. As they develop, these companies make continental travel more accessible and pleasurable.
