Kenyan startups BuuPass and mTek improve travel insurance

To enhance clients’ travel experiences, Kenyan startups BuuPass, a transportation platform, and mTek, a prominent digital insurance company, have created a strategic relationship. The partnership aims to incorporate complete trip insurance into the booking process.

Revolutionizing Travel: BuuPass and mTek Unite

BuuPass, founded in 2016 by Sonia Kabra and Wyclife Omondi, is a pioneering B2B2C mobility marketplace. Users can search, compare, and book travel tickets online via a mobile app or USSD.

BuuPass offers a smooth ticketing experience and a SaaS platform for bus operators to manage operations, inventory, and sales. With over 16 million travel tickets sold, the firm has grossed over US$100 million. The Google for Startups Accelerator Africa and Black Founders Fund have supported BuuPass. After acquiring QuickPass this year, BuuPass grew.

Launched in 2020, mTek is at the forefront of digitizing Kenya’s insurance industry. The platform offers a paperless ecosystem that allows customers to purchase insurance directly from insurers, compare policies, and file claims using their smart devices. With a wide range of insurance services from 35 Kenyan underwriters, mTek has quickly become a trusted insurance company. In 2022, mTek secured a US$3 million funding round to expand its offerings further.

BuuPass and mTek’s relationship advances traveller safety, peace of mind, and convenience. The partnership between BuuPass’s user-friendly platform and mTek’s extensive insurance solutions makes booking easy and secure.

Customers using the BuuPass platform to book bus tickets can now easily acquire mTek’s travel insurance.
