Bluesky tailors feed to show more vertical content like TikTok

On Sunday, Bluesky announced the launch of a custom feed for vertical videos. The feed aims to enhance user engagement by allowing users to browse and pin trending videos directly within the app.

This move comes as social media platforms increasingly adopt features reminiscent of TikTok, reflecting a broader trend in the industry.

Tailoring content for users

Unlike popular video-sharing platforms, Bluesky’s new feature enables users to swipe through a dedicated section for vertical videos. The app’s interface allows users to pin this feed to their home screen or integrate it into their list of feeds.

In their announcement, Bluesky stated, “We had to get in on the video action, too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video! Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customise”. This customisation is part of Bluesky’s broader strategy to offer a more personalised social media experience.

The introduction of this feature coincides with a surge in user growth for Bluesky, which recently surpassed 28 million users. The platform has seen significant interest amid controversies surrounding TikTok and other ByteDance applications.

As competitors like X (formerly Twitter) and Meta also roll out similar video-focused features, Bluesky positions itself as a viable alternative for users seeking decentralised social media options.
