Airtel, a mobile phone service provider in Kenya, announced toll price payment options on Tuesday in collaboration with Moja Motorway Company, a Chinese company that oversees the 27.1-kilometre Nairobi Motorway.
Through the partnership, Airtel Kenya’s mobile money service, Airtel Money, is presented as the newest and most practical means for motorway users to make payments.
Subscribers can now easily pay tolls at motorway exits due to the partnership between Airtel Money and Moja Motorway Company.

Airtel Money CEO expressed optimism about the partnership with Moja Motorway
Anne Kinuthia-Otieno, Managing Director of Airtel Money Kenya, commented on the collaboration stating, “In today’s environment, fostering strong partnerships and delivering clear value to our customers is the way forward. We are pleased to join hands with Moja Expressway Company to offer our customers a secure and convenient way to pay expressway toll fees.”
“We remain committed to providing our customers with a seamless and convenient experience, and this partnership will help us achieve that goal,” she noted.
Airtel Money offers its customers an inexpensive platform for making payments as more and more drivers choose to use the motorway.
Customers can enjoy a flexible and easy check-out process while at the motorway by utilising this payment method.
How the payment options work
The Moja Motorway Company and Airtel Money partnered to serve motorway users using cash payments, manual toll collection (MTC), or electronic toll collection (ETC).
Customers may now easily make MTC payments at exits or top up their ETC accounts using Airtel Money as a payment option.
For MTC, customers can now pay at exit toll stations using Airtel Money. The customer will be asked to enter their PIN to complete the transaction after giving the attendant their Airtel registered number and receiving a push notification.
For ETC users, payments can be topped up via the Moja website or by calling *819# on Airtel Money.
Free transaction fees till January 2025
Until the end of January 2025, payments made using Airtel Money along the motorway will be free of transaction fees (apart from partner fees) as part of Airtel’s holiday promotions.
“The decision to partner with Moja Expressway was driven by a shared vision to cater to the unique needs of the expressway users. Airtel Money, being a key player in the digital payment landscape, found synergy with Moja Expressway’s commitment to providing convenient transportation solutions.”
“This partnership aims to benefit all stakeholders involved and, most importantly, provide customers with an additional secure and efficient payment choice,” Anne added.
