Africa Data Centre Joins Force With IXPN Nigeria

Africa Data Centres is teaming up with the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) in a deal that will see better connectivity and lower bandwidth costs for Nigerians.

The Cassava Technologies group, which includes the largest network of connected, carrier- and cloud-neutral data centre facilities in Africa, has taken a big step forward in its large-scale expansion into Africa. This has seen recent builds in South Africa and Ghana, with plans to build data centres in ten of Africa’s largest economic capitals.

IXPN is the biggest internet exchange provider in Nigeria. It lets local content and service providers connect directly to trade local internet traffic instead of sending their data long distances. IXPN is making it faster for end users to access online resources by moving the content closer to the customer. This has a big effect on how well businesses work.

Partners say that working with IXPN makes it easier for local customers to do colocation and cloud migrations that are reliable, secure, and connected.

The partnership between Africa Data Centres and IXPN makes it possible for cloud services to work well by setting up stable Internet access and strong, dependable data centres. IXPN provides Internet peering, while Africa Data Centres gives customers access to the local ecosystem.

IXPN’s CEO, Muhammed Rudman, said the partnership will provide an additional point of presence for IXPN members within the new Eko Atlantic City.

The CEO of IXPN, Muhammed Rudman, said, “We are excited to work with Africa Data Centres to give our members an additional point of presence in the new Eko Atlantic City.”

“Our partnership with Africa Data Centres provides our members with access to more peering facilities, particularly in Lagos, which will significantly improve connection performance, lower bandwidth costs, and lower latency for Nigerian internet traffic,” he concluded.

On his part, Africa Data Centres’ group executive for IT and partnerships, Dr Angus Hay said, “IXPN is unquestionably the leading Internet exchange point in Nigeria and provides Africa Data Centres with the connectivity it needs to give customers market-leading service.”

“The partnership will allow Nigerian organizations to move their systems into a world-class data center with full confidence, knowing that they will have access to an ecosystem of strategic partners that is highly available, secure, and connected.”

Cloud services can’t work well without stable Internet connections and strong, reliable data centers. This is the essence of the partnership between Africa Data Centres and IXPN. They bring Internet peering to the table, and the data centre provider delivers the local ecosystem for customers, “Africa Data Centre” added.

As enterprises continue to migrate to the cloud and internet-centric technology, the expenses associated with operating their own infrastructure, including backup generators and physical security, remain a challenge.

Therefore, shared data centre resources reduce the total cost of ownership while increasing the availability and connectivity of said infrastructure and creating opportunities for further collaboration.

“Organisations are moving away from their on-premises equipment to promote greater business agility and scalability. To do this, they need a trusted specialist provider to house their systems and a colocation provider, who can assume the role of a trusted partner and provide excellent local and international connectivity,” added Hay.

About IXPN

The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) is a non-profit and membership-based organisation. IXPN gives networks a place to connect directly within Nigeria. This ensures that local Internet traffic stays local and doesn’t have to go through multiple countries to reach people in the same area. The benefits of direct interconnection are numerous, but the main ones are cost savings, reduced latency, and increased internet bandwidth.

IXPN is currently the Regional Internet Exchange Point (RIXP) for West Africa. It connects more than 100 active networks, including all major cloud providers and Nigeria’s Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
