SeamlessHR, Africa’s leading human resources and payroll technology company, announced on Sunday that it has secured $9 million in Series A funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Helios Digital Ventures.
Strategic investment to advance HR innovation
The $9 million funding marks a significant step forward for SeamlessHR as it seeks to expand its reach and introduce innovative solutions. The Gates Foundation’s involvement underscores the potential of HR technology to drive economic growth by improving workforce management. Helios Digital Ventures, renowned for supporting transformative African businesses, brings expertise in scaling operations across the continent.

SeamlessHR plans to channel the investment into enhancing its platform with advanced technologies, such as AI-driven analytics, and scaling its embedded finance offerings. These tools aim to empower businesses by streamlining HR and payroll processes, improving employee satisfaction, and driving overall efficiency.
In addition to this recent milestone, SeamlessHR had previously raised $10 million in Series A funding on January 12, 2022, led by TLcom Capital, with contributions from Capria Ventures, Lateral Capital, Enza Capital, and Ingressive Capital. That round supported its initial expansion and the launch of embedded finance products aimed at addressing the critical financial needs of employees.
Empowering Africa’s workforce and businesses
SeamlessHR has established itself as a pioneer in HR tech, with nearly 2,000 businesses using its platform to manage HR and payroll for approximately 300,000 employees across 20 African countries. Its solutions cater to medium and large enterprises, providing localized tools tailored to African markets while aligning with global standards.
This funding will enable the company to deepen its presence in English-speaking African countries and enhance its infrastructure to meet growing demand. SeamlessHR also aims to expand its offerings in embedded finance, allowing employees to leverage responsible credit products for essential needs such as housing, education, and mobility.
