The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a new contactless passport application renewal process effective in Canada November 1 and subsequently to be rolled out to other nations.
The NIS on Wednesday disclosed that Nigerians intending to renew their passports can now do so from the comfort of their homes without having to visit their office.
The contactless passport application process, which only deals in passport renewal tentatively, will cut across various countries in three phases, with the first in Canada starting on Friday, while phase 2 will extend to the UK, USA and Italy by November 15.
Nigerian residents and other nations of the world will benefit from phase 3 from December 1.
Passport renewal applicants were directed to download the NIS mobile app on Google Play and iOs for Android and Apple devices.
Applicants were given the option of visiting http://www.passport.immigration.gov.ng/ and follow the prompts.

Step-by-step guide on international passport renewal
Step 1: Create a profile using a valid email.
Step 2: Complete the eligibility test to know if the passport meets all criteria for renewal.
Step 3: Input your National Identification Number (NIN) and current passport number for verification purposes.
Step 4: Provide your bio-data and upload relevant supporting documents such as NIN slip, local government area certificate and birth certificate, among others.
Step 5: capture your fingerprint on your mobile device for verification.
Step 6: Review all your information to ensure everything is accurate.
Step 7: Complete payment through an online platform
Step 8: Submit your application.
Once these steps are completed, the renewed passport will be delivered to the applicant at the stipulated timeline.
