Kenya’s first e-mobility youth forum and motor show kicks off in Kisumu

Kisumu City is set to host Kenya’s inaugural E-Mobility Youth Skills Forum and Motor Show from November 1–3, 2024, with a central theme, “Accelerate to Green.” The event aims to engage Kenyan youths in the green technology and electric mobility sectors, covering topics such as reducing emissions, transitioning to green energy, and advancing EV innovations within the Northern Corridor and the Tanzania-South Sudan transport link.

The event will be held at the Goan Centre, welcoming over 19,000 attendees, including engineers, industry leaders, and over 1,000 exhibitors from top companies like E-Safiri, KenInvest, and Mobikey. Through educational sessions, networking, and exhibitions, delegates will explore innovations, learn about cutting-edge technology, and participate in developing green mobility solutions to meet Africa’s transportation needs.

Youth skills development in e-mobility

A highlight of the event is the Youth Forum on E-Mobility Skills Development. The forum seeks to inspire and educate youth on Kenya’s rapidly expanding green economy, specifically in local EV manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance areas. This initiative addresses Kenya’s pressing need to bridge the gap between its workforce’s existing skills and the specialised expertise essential for the green mobility sector.

Addressing curriculum gaps and inspiring change

According to Dan Odhiambo, CEO of The Event Factory, Kenya’s technical education system lacks alignment with industry needs, creating a shortage of skilled workers in the e-mobility field.

“There’s a critical skills mismatch, especially in sectors like EV technology,” said Odhiambo, highlighting that the forum is designed to encourage Kenyan youths, particularly the 8 million young people in the Lake region, to pursue careers in green technology and electric mobility

In addition to showcases from exhibitors, the forum will feature hands-on activities and immersive displays, including a “Rolling with LRMS” podcast series, interactive AI chatbot systems, and a 360-degree video frame for content creation. These features aim to engage visitors in the potential applications of green technology and highlight innovation as a core tool for sustainable economic growth.

Building connections and mentorship for Kenyan youths

Attendees will benefit from extensive networking opportunities, mentorship programs, and career guidance sessions led by industry innovators. These offerings aim to equip Kenyan youths with critical skills, industry insights, and direct connections to leaders in the green technology sector. Through this forum, young people will gain knowledge and encouragement to drive Kenya’s clean energy and e-mobility future.

As Kenya moves toward a more sustainable and green economy, the E-Mobility Youth Skills Forum and Motor Show aims to empower the next generation with the tools, knowledge, and motivation to lead in this emerging field. By fostering an environment of learning, innovation, and collaboration, the event sets a foundation for the future of e-mobility in Kenya, inspiring youths to become agents of change in the green revolution.
