Elon Musk, the platform’s owner, said that Twitter is getting ready to erase 1.5 billion inactive accounts to make room for idle handles.
According to Musk, it was “obvious” to identify the accounts the business should erase. The group “hadn’t tweeted in years” and “hadn’t logged in.”
At the time of this writing, the firm has not released specific information regarding how it would identify accounts for deletion.

Why should Twitter terminate inactive users?
Elon Musk may delete dormant accounts in response to customer concerns. According to them, dormant accounts had distinctive and attractive handles during Twitter’s early days.
Eliminating these accounts would allow others to utilize them more effectively. Moreover, Twitter may now be able to investigate revenue-generating opportunities.
Twitter recorded 237.8 million “monetizable daily active users” in the second quarter of 2022. This metric indicates that these users are active on the network and are being served ads.
Inactive Twitter users cannot view advertisements. Hence they do not contribute to the company’s advertising revenue.
Additionally, they do not generate content or engagement. Eliminating them could be a budget-saving measure for the organization.
Other Twitter revenue streams
By removing inactive users, Twitter will be able to concentrate on monetizing its active user base.
For instance, Elon Musk has stated that he plans to implement a monthly subscription price of $8 for users who want gold, gray, and blue verification icons.
Companies are represented by the gold checkmarks, government officials and agencies by the gray ones, and individuals by the blue ones.
The head honcho suggested that members of other groups might wear an additional insignia to show their affiliation. In addition, Twitter employees would verify users’ identities before enabling verification badges.
Elon Musk could soon transform Twitter into a “super app,” a multifunctional mobile application that combines features from several other apps.
Grab provides a variety of services, including food delivery, cab hailing, insurance sales, and hotel room reservations. Finally, Musk hinted that NSFW accounts may soon be able to earn money.
