Residents of the United Kingdom and seven other European nations will soon be able to repair their iPhones on their own using certified Apple components.
Until now, customers who needed repairs on their Apple products had to go to an Apple Store or a third-party repair agency. Customers can also purchase genuine Apple parts and tools to perform maintenance and repairs themselves.
However, most people will still be steered toward having professional technicians fix their devices. Users will need to show that they have read and understood a training manual before they can be given access to the tools, which can be difficult to use for some.

iPhone self-service repairs
Since its debut in the US at the start of this year, Apple’s Self-Service Repair program has made available repair instructions, diagnostic tools, and spare parts for the iPhone 12, 13, and later models, as well as for the most up-to-date models of Apple’s own Mac laptops, which use Apple-designed A12 and A13 chips. The United States served as the pilot country for the initiative.
More than two hundred different components are available for purchase or rental through a specialist online store.
According to Apple, the parts are identical to those previously accessible to Apple’s approved repair providers and cost the same. Replacement components returned by customers can be reused or recycled for a credit against future purchases. Apple claims these components are identical to those previously available to its approved repair providers.
The chief operational officer at Apple, Jeff Williams, has been quoted as saying that the corporation makes goods to endure a long time with minimal servicing. According to Williams, “technology that lasts is the finest technology for our consumers and for the planet.”

Apple’s Other Agenda For Self Repair Option
In the event that maintenance is needed, however, we want our customers to have access to a number of trustworthy repair options.
This is why we’re so excited to introduce self-service repair in Europe, where customers will have instant access to genuine Apple components, tools, and documentation.
In addition to the United Kingdom, the rest of Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden, and Spain) will be able to participate in the program as well.
The “right to repair” movement is one of the most vocal Apple critics. This is because Apple has been criticized in the past for devices that can’t be fixed. In recent years, however, the company has worked to make its products easier to fix by making changes and adding new services and programs like the self-service repair program.
