Twitter announces new features to enable calls, encrypted messages

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, recently unveiled a range of fresh enhancements for the popular social media platform.

Among the updates are direct message reply support, voice/video chat capabilities, and the introduction of encrypted DM 1.0.

Mr Musk took to his Twitter account to share this exciting news, stating that the release of encrypted DMs V1.0 is expected to occur soonest.

He expressed confidence in the growing sophistication of this feature and emphasized its strong security measures, asserting that even under extreme circumstances, such as a threat to his life, he would be unable to access users’ private messages.

He wrote, “With the latest version of the app, you can DM reply to any message in the thread (not just the most recent) and use any emoji reaction.

“Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number.”

Benefits of Twitter’s latest feature

Twitter’s latest features, including direct response to specific messages and emojis reactions, voice and video calling, and end-to-end encrypted direct messaging for paid subscribers, have several benefits. These features enhance Twitter’s functionality and usability, making it a more versatile and convenient platform for users.

Twitter’s new direct response feature allows users to respond to a specific message in a conversation thread, making conversations more organized and efficient. This feature is particularly useful in group chats, where it can be difficult to keep track of individual responses and messages.

To use the feature, users simply need to swipe left on a message to see a new “reply” icon. Clicking on the icon will open up a new message thread, where users can respond directly to the message they want to address. Direct responses also show a small preview of the original message, making it easier to follow the conversation thread. Overall, this feature is a welcome addition to Twitter’s messaging functionality.

The emojis reactions feature enables users to quickly express their emotions without typing a message, saving time and effort by using various emojis, including smiley faces, hearts, thumbs up, and many others.

This feature enhances the user experience by providing a quick and easy way to express emotions and opinions without having to type out a response. Additionally, the emojis reactions feature encourages engagement and interaction between users, as they can easily react to each other’s messages. Overall, this feature adds a fun and personal touch to conversations on Twitter.

Twitter’s voice and video calling feature allows users to have real-time conversations with their followers, friends, and colleagues. This feature is available on both desktop and mobile versions of Twitter. Users can initiate a voice or video call by clicking on the call button on the profile of the person they want to call. This feature is particularly useful for businesses that need to have quick meetings or for users who want to have more personal conversations with their followers. With Twitter’s voice and video calling feature, users can connect with each other in a more meaningful way, enhancing their overall user experience on the platform.

The end-to-end encryption feature ensures privacy and security for paid subscribers, protecting their messages from unauthorized access. The feature ensures that only the sender and the recipient can read the content of the messages.

This feature provides an additional layer of privacy and security to the users, making it more difficult for any third-party, including Twitter, to access the messages. However, it is important to note that this feature is only available for paid subscribers, and it must be enabled manually by the user.

While this feature is not foolproof, it is a step in the right direction towards protecting user privacy and ensuring secure communication on the platform.
