YouTube launches content creator app ‘YouTube Create’

YouTube, Google’s platform for viewing videos, just released a new app for people who make videos called “YouTube Create.”

YouTube said that the new app has tools for editing videos, like precise cutting and editing, automatic captioning, voiceover, and access to a library of filters, effects, transitions, and royalty-free music with beat-matching technology so that creators don’t have to use complicated editing software to make their next YouTube video.

They were able to do it all on their phones.

The tool is meant to help creators with things like editing and using artistic tools like stickers, GIFs, and effects, among other things.

The company says the app was made based on what content makers said about their problems.

    Anyone can now create

YouTube announced in a blog post that anyone may produce and share content with the new app:

We understand video production might be challenging and hinder first-time creators from posting. YouTube Create, our new mobile app, simplifies this process and lets anyone create and share YouTube videos. YouTube Create, available in beta for Android in certain areas, is free and simplifies video production for short and longer videos so creators can focus on more creative work.

After adding footage, artists could choose from several editing tools to start their videos.

When putting together a movie, they can use the app to preview splits and trim their clips. In the app, you can also find thousands of stickers, GIFs, and effects.

    Coming AI feature

YouTube said it would test a new Dream Screen tool later this year. It said this feature will let people make backgrounds for their shorts made by AI by just putting an idea into a prompt.

“Have you ever wished you were making a movie in space? Going on a walk through a magic forest? Have you ever dreamed that your dog took you to school? With Dream Screen, people who make shorts can make new, fantastic scenes for them that are only as limited as their imaginations. We’ll start by letting a few artists know about Dream Screen before rolling it out to more people next year.

The company said, “In the future, we’ll add features that will let anyone instantly rethink their videos by just typing in an idea for how to edit their content or remix existing YouTube videos to make something completely new.”

YouTube Create was pushed by competition

TikTok is YouTube’s biggest competitor, so it’s no surprise that some of YouTube’s newest features are also inspired by it.

Collab, similar to TikTok’s Duet feature and letting users respond to a video in a split-screen format next to the original video as it plays, was just added recently.

YouTube just revealed that live vertical videos will also be coming to Shorts. This is something that TikTok and Instagram already have.

Creators can livestream in a vertical video style for their followers to join with this feature.

YouTube seeks to prevent medical misinformation

For the purpose of assisting people in the United Kingdom to avoid harmful medical misinformation on the internet, YouTube has introduced a verification mechanism for medical experts living in the UK.

In the year 2021, users located in the United Kingdom accounted for more than two billion video views of clips on health issues.

In an effort to combat the spread of inaccurate information, YouTube has introduced a new verification badge that will be affixed to the profiles of medical professionals and organisations, such as licenced physicians, registered nurses, psychologists, and other health-related professionals and companies.

    Remark from YouTube executive

Dr Vishaal Virani, head of UK health for YouTube, stated that the transition to verified health videos for users in the United Kingdom was essential due to the large number of people in the United Kingdom who receive healthcare information through the video-sharing platform.

Virani told the BBC, “Whether we like it or not, whether we want it or not, whether the health industry is pushing for it or not, people are accessing health information online. We need to do as good a job as possible to bring rigour to the content that they are subsequently consuming when they start their care journey online.”

    The implementation

In June, the verification system started accepting applications from healthcare practitioners living in the UK who already held a valid medical licence.

Accounts that submitted their films for the verification process are now beginning to see a mark of authenticity on YouTube next to their channel names.

This would help to make it as simple as possible for people to determine whether the material they are viewing came from a trained medical expert.

When submitting their accounts, potential health makers are subjected to a stringent and multi-step verification process that is carried out in collaboration with the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and the National Health Service.

Creators in the health industry have their older videos reviewed as well; however, they do not receive verification when it comes to whether or not their older movies have contained any medically inaccurate content.

    About YouTube

YouTube is a website that allows users to upload, share, and view videos online. Its headquarters are located in San Bruno, California, in the United States. On February 14, 2005, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim were the ones who first made it available to users all around the world.

It is the second most frequented website in the world, behind only Google Search, and it is owned by Google. More than 2.5 billion people log in to YouTube on a monthly basis, and those users watch more than one billion hours of video content every single day. As of the month of May 2019, the rate at which videos were being uploaded to platforms like YouTube was greater than 500 hours of content each minute.

YouTube has evolved beyond its basic website to include mobile apps, network television, and the ability to link with other platforms ever since it was purchased by Google. Music videos, video clips, news, short films, feature films, songs, documentaries, movie trailers, teasers, live streams, vlogs, and many more types of video content can be found in YouTube’s various video categories.

The vast majority of video on YouTube is produced by individual users, including joint efforts between YouTubers and commercial advertisers. Established media conglomerates such as Disney, Paramount, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. Discovery have all established and grown their own corporate YouTube channels in order to sell their products to a wider audience.

The societal influence that YouTube has had is unprecedented, as seen by its power to shape popular culture and internet trends and its role in the creation of celebrities worth several millions of dollars.

In spite of its expansion and success, it has been subjected to widespread criticism for allegedly aiding in the dissemination of false information and the sharing of content that is protected by intellectual property rights; routinely violating the privacy of its users; facilitating censorship; putting the health and safety of children in jeopardy; and for the inconsistent or incorrect implementation of platform guidelines.

Photography, video apps will earn $12 billion in 2023

Social media has grown into a large ecosystem. The platform has expanded from communication to retail, digital marketing, and content development. Photo and video apps help social media users expand their online presence.

Snapchat and YouTube usage are rising. Use cases like live broadcasting and image manipulation have also been significant.

OnlyAccounts found $12 billion in revenue from photo and video applications this year.

App downloads reached 29.1 billion. This shows that photo and video apps are becoming increasingly popular, with users willing to pay for their diverse capabilities. It’s no surprise that they’re among Google Play and the App Store’s highest-grossing categories.

Smartphone users use a lot of photo and video apps, which is another thing to consider. Depending on how much computer power they have, smartphones can easily do different things, like edit photos.

Statista’s Global Consumer Survey found that about 4 out of 10 people who own smartphones in many big markets use photo editing apps often. Because of this, picture editing apps are now more popular than news, video, dating, and fitness apps. Canada (46%), Spain (44%), the U.S. (42%), China (40%), and India (40%) are the top five markets where people regularly use picture editing apps on their smartphones.

Trends for photo and video apps in the future

Statista says that 37 billion picture and video apps will be downloaded by 2027, based on their fast growth. Because there are benefits for both businesses and individuals and because the number of downloads is rising, the above prediction is not entirely impossible.

FaceApp, which lets people take pictures of their younger or older selves, took the world by storm in 2019 because it could do that. Similarly, Lensa AI, a picture editing app that uses AI, hit over 19 million downloads in a month after adding the Magic Avatars feature.

When it comes to money, there’s a good chance that the industry’s cash streams will grow. In-app purchases and ads are two of the most significant ways businesses make money. Statista thinks the money from in-app sales and paid apps will grow by 50% in 2027. Over the next four years, income from ads is expected to grow by 66%.

YouTube to pay AI-generated music artists and rights holders

YouTube has said it will start a service called “YouTube’s Music AI Incubator” to help it figure out how to use AI by working with artists, songwriters, and producers from all over the business to figure out what to do next. It says that in the future, it will figure out how to pay artists for songs made by AI. To

The programme is part of its larger plans to deal with the effects of AI technology on the music industry. It is related to its video hosting platform and its current partnerships with artists, labels, and other rightsholders in the music industry. The company is optimistic about AI’s ability to “enhance music’s unique creative expression,” but it also says it needs to protect the integrity of artists’ work.

The statement, which was posted on its blog, says in part: “AI is moving faster than ever before right now. It’s making people more creative, giving them new ideas, and even changing whole businesses. At this important turning point, it’s clear that we need to accept this technology with courage and a strong commitment to being responsible.

To start the programme, YouTube is working with Universal Music Group (UMG) and its list of artists, such as songwriter and producer Anitta, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur Bjorn Ulvaeus, and musician, composer, and producer Don Was.

Other artists include Columbian musician Juanes, producer Louis Bell, composer Max Richter, songwriter and producer Rodney Jerkins, singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, rapper, musician, entrepreneur, and philanthropist Yo Gotti, and Frank Sinatra’s estate.

We’re developing an AI framework alongside our music partners, including Universal Music Group, to achieve our goals. These three AI principles boost music’s unique creative expression while protecting artists and their work.

The platform’s three goals for the coming months are “AI is here, and we will embrace it responsibly together with our music partners.” AI is enabling new creative expression, but it must safeguard music partners and provide possibilities. Last, we have an industry-leading trust and safety organization and content policies. We will scale those for AI challenges.”

UMG is more cautious about using AI than YouTube. It requested that Spotify stop AI startups from using its music to train their models earlier this year. Copyright strikes were also issued on AI-generated YouTube videos using their creators’ work. UMG withdrew a viral AI song that mimicked Drake and The Weeknd’s vocals from Spotify and Apple Music.

YouTube plans to use generative AI

YouTube says it has “made massive investments over the years in the systems that help balance the interests of copyright holders with those of the creative community on YouTube” to address this contradiction between new technology and recompense.

The company notes that it already has standards about using technically altered content to deceive viewers, saying that trust and safety are necessary for this system. It plans to expand those technologies to prevent generative AI from being used for criminal operations, misinformation, and spam. It plans to identify this information using AI.

YouTube will disclose its new AI music system’s technologies, business prospects, and policies in the future.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan announced, “I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity of AI to supercharge creativity around the world, but I recognise that YouTube and the promise of AI will only be successful if our partners are successful.” He stated, “Together, we can embrace this new technology in a way that supports artists, songwriters, producers, and the industry as a whole while driving value for fans and pushing creative boundaries.”

YouTube launches television service beginning with WNBA games

Google-owned YouTube has now officially debuted its streaming television service, the new Multiview for YouTube TV and Primetime Channels, beginning with WNBA games, after testing it for the previous several months.

Multiview is now available for use on YouTube TV and Primetime Channels, as revealed by YouTube. Since March, the feature has been in beta for both sports and non-gaming content. In anticipation of the next NFL season with Sunday Ticket, the firm is also rolling out Multiview for WNBA League Pass subscribers.

Multiview is a feature of smart TVs and streaming devices like Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV which allows users to watch up to four channels at once. However, Google indicated that Multiview is not supported on mobile and web platforms at this time.

Even if Multiview reaches more people, YouTube is still curating the content to feature rather than letting viewers decide on which games they want to watch. Google says this is so they can provide users with a better experience overall, but they are working on making it more flexible and adding additional features.

Multiview’s Home page and Watch Next recommendations will include “Recommended multiviews” for WNBA Primetime Channel subscribers. When the app is first opened, it will automatically choose the default stream and begin playing the audio from that source. With a single flick of the remote, you can switch between channels, go full screen, and then return to the grid layout.

    Multiview the latest in-line feature

Sports fans and other viewers who want to watch many streams at once might enjoy YouTube’s Multiview feature. Following its formal debut, it is likely to become more popular among viewers who wish to follow a wide variety of sports and events in real time.

Initially unveiled in March, Multiview was created so that sports fans may watch numerous games at once without having to flip stations. The addition of non-sports content makes it possible for users to browse through a broader selection of titles simultaneously.

YouTube TV has been updating its service with features like vital plays, fantasy view (to check in on your fantasy sports teams), and now multiview is the latest feature released in line to attempt to attract sports enthusiasts.

  • YouTube new monetisation favours smaller creators

YouTube new monetisation favours smaller creators

YouTube is loosening some of the restrictions on its partner programme to make it easier for new video makers to get their careers off the ground and start making money as quickly as possible.

However, things aren’t looking very well for new content makers at the moment.

YouTube is one of the most popular websites for video material, and its influence on the current era of digital creativity cannot be overstated. However, new video creators on YouTube who only have a few followers are not eligible to join YouTube’s Partner Programme (YPP).

Creators have the opportunity to make money from advertisements through the use of this programme.

The eligibility requirements for YouTube producers were loosened up in June of 2023, which paved the way for these creators to begin earning on the network more quickly. Creators gain access to a variety of fan funding options when they sign up for the partner programme, including channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Thanks, and more.

Bringing down the barriers to generating revenue

The previous year, YouTube announced that significant upgrades were on the way for the YouTube Partner Programme (YPP), which was designed to assist more creators in earning more money on YouTube.

Creators on YouTube who have reached the threshold of 500 subscribers, have uploaded 3 public videos within the past 90 days, and have either accumulated 3000 watch hours over the course of the previous year or received 3 million views on Shorts over the course of the previous 90 days are now eligible to apply for the YouTube Partner Programme.

The application process began today. In the past, in order for channel owners to be eligible for YPP, they needed either 1,000 subscribers who had logged 4,000 valid public watch hours in the preceding year or 1,000 subscribers who had logged 10 million valid public Shorts views in the preceding 90 days.

“Our options for crowd funding provide content creators with an additional way to increase their profits while simultaneously connecting with their audience as they grow their communities on YouTube,” says YouTube leaders

These tools allow creators all over the world, such as Emily D. Baker, to reward their followers with exclusive content and benefits in exchange for channel memberships or shoutout viewers who use Super Chat during their live streams. In point of fact, as compared to the previous year, the number of channels in the United States that derived the majority of their revenue from fan funding items in December 2022 witnessed an increase that was greater than 20%

Eligible creators will be able to apply to YPP sooner, beginning on June 13, 2023. In order to be eligible, creators must have a minimum of 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads during the last 90 days, and either 3000 watch hours in the previous year or 3M Shorts views over the last 90 days. These new partners will be able to gain access to fan-funding features such as channel memberships, Super Chat, Super Stickers, and Super Thanks, in addition to the capacity to promote their own products through YouTube Shopping.

The manner in which YouTube would implement this modification

YouTube would begin rolling out this higher level of YPP to creators in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea, and over time, the company will introduce earlier access to YPP in all countries where YPP is now available.

These producers will automatically become eligible to earn revenue sharing from commercials and even more perks once they reach the existing YPP eligibility criteria as their channel continues to expand, and they won’t have to go through the complete YPP application process again to do so. This will save these artists a lot of time and effort. These pre-existing criteria for eligibility to participate in revenue sharing will not be amended.

YouTube Introduces “Name Handle” To Make Creator Tagging Simpler

YouTube shopping affiliate programme is going through an expansion

YouTube is expanding the YouTube Shopping affiliate programme to all qualified US-based producers who are in the YouTube Partner Programme and have more than 20,000 subscribers. This will benefit creators who are further along in their careers on YouTube.

The affiliate programme enables content creators to highlight the products of other artists and companies in their videos and Shorts, and it also makes them eligible for competitive commission rates on the sales of those products that are tagged in their films and Shorts.

YouTube has partnered with more than 50 different businesses, and more are on the way so that users’ videos and Shorts can highlight and tag products from those firms. This means that when a content creator is discussing a product, they can tag it directly in their video or Short to make it easier for viewers to purchase the item, and the creator can then receive a commission on sales produced by the content itself.

Kunda Kids announces fundraising round, new YouTube series

The premiere of Kunda & Friends, the flagship animated series from children’s media publisher and creative studio Kunda Kids, will take place on May 29 at The Cineworld Cinema, The O2, in Greenwich, London.

A pre-seed funding round of $700,000 was also recently closed by the company, with participation from Zrosk Investment Management, Voltron Capital, Argentil Capital, HoaQ, Kaleo Ventures, angel investors Abi Ajayi, Chiamaka Ezenwa, Adetayo Bamiduro of MAX, and Benjamin Fernandes, CEO of Nala Money.

“With this funding, we can keep developing the Kunda Kids app and collaborating with artists from the African diaspora.”

According to a survey conducted in 2022 by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, black and multiracial characters are among the least frequently featured groups in children’s media (1.9% and 0.6%, respectively).

Kunda Kids was created with the goal of revolutionising children’s media about Africa. Parents and teachers may help children become global citizens who respect and value diversity by introducing them to aspects of African history and culture in engaging, kid-friendly ways.

The 3D animated children’s show Kunda & Friends is a musical adventure set in Africa. The adventures of Kunda, a little boy of African and Asian descent, and his pals Sana, a girl of African and Indian descent, and Fela, a boy from Nigeria, and their animal companions Leo the lion and Ella the elephant, are chronicled in this animated series.

Afrobeats and Amapiano, popularised by Grammy-winning performers like Ladysmith Black Mambazo and more contemporary artists like Burna Boy and WizKid, provide as inspiration for the music in the Kunda & Friends soundtrack.

The series’ narrative centres on friendship and teaches youngsters valuable prosocial lessons, giving teachers and parents a chance to interact with their children through shared viewing.

“I am overjoyed to report that our pre-seed round has closed, and I am extremely appreciative to the awe-inspiring investors who share our goal. We can now officially establish Kunda & Friends and begin funding Africa’s amazing creative talent. Together, we will change the narrative by fostering a new generation of African storytellers.” says  Kunda & Friends creator,  Oladele Olafuyi.

“It is our goal to make available high-quality stories in a variety of media for children all around the world so that they can learn more about Africa’s rich and diverse past. It’s crucial that kids be able to relate to and identify with characters in high-quality media. They can become the leaders of tomorrow if we let them feel a part of something bigger than themselves from a young age.” says Kunda & Friends, co-creator Louisa Olafuyi.

Providing greater avenues for African talent in publishing and production is central to Kunda Kids’ aim.

The studio is dedicated to hiring talented people from many walks of life, including those who work in animation, painting, writing, production, and business. Co-founder of Creatures Animation Studio and former Disney producer Raymond Malinga is also the director of Kunda & Friends, and he has said, “Kunda & Friends is an opportunity to affect not just children all across the world, but also the lives of artists who wish to participate in performances of a grander scale.

9 Google products that are powered by AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant strides in the past several years in terms of both use and application, and it has a bright future ahead of it. Google’s key products, used by billions of people daily, are already powered by AI.

Technology is reviving society globally. A head-to-head battle between AI+search optimization’s top players is the future. Talent acquisition, pricing volatility, and an unimaginable amount of money will be spent on search in the future.

These are nine ways we now employ AI to improve the usefulness of our products, including some of our most recent features:

    Search

The majority of searches at the time Google was formed were made on computers found in households, libraries, or computer labs. Twenty-five years later, AI is enabling search in new languages, with new inputs (such as using your camera to look anything up or even humming a song), and even several inputs at once.

How many times have you searched for the perfect clothing, nail painting lesson, or plant care instructions but couldn’t find the proper words?

Google’s multisearch lets you search using photos and text in the app. You can snap a photo and add words to discover a shirt with an unusual wallpaper pattern.

Modern methods for language processing and computer vision are used to power this capability. With Google Multisearch, users can now take a picture of an object to ask questions about it or even narrow down their search by brand, colour, or other details.

Open the Google app on your smartphone or tablet, tap the Lens camera icon, and then either search for one of your screenshots or take a photo of something in the immediate vicinity, like the trendy wallpaper pattern at your neighbourhood coffee shop, to get started.

To add text, slide up and click the “+ Add to your search” button.

    Maps

In more than 220 nations and territories around the world, Google Maps is used to drive more than 1 billion kilometers each day. Google Maps employs artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze data and deliver current information about traffic conditions and delays, sometimes assisting users in completely avoiding a traffic jam.

Google and DeepMind, an Alphabet AI research facility, collaborated last year to increase the precision of their traffic forecast tools.

Google Maps has combined billions of Street View and aerial photographs to build a detailed digital model of the world, allowing users to experience a location as if they were physically present before entering.

Using artificial intelligence (AI), Google Maps uses 2D photos of a location to build a highly accurate 3D depiction that models the real complexity of a place, so you can see if a restaurant has wonderful lighting for a date night or a great outdoor dining area.

    Translate

Google Translate eliminates linguistic barriers with AI and machine learning. With advanced machine-language-driven translation, the program now supports 133 languages.

The Google Translate app now supports 33 additional languages, all of which may be used whether the user has a network connection or is traveling without one.

In addition to others, the new languages also include Basque, Corsican, Hawaiian, Hmong, Kurdish, Latin, Luxembourgish, Sundanese, Yiddish, and Zulu.

    Pixel

In chat, your Pixel phone can now immediately translate between 21 different languages thanks to a recent announcement, and interpreter mode on your Pixel phone can also enable verbal conversations between six different languages.

Magic Eraser on Pixel 6 removes photo distractions with it. A photobomb or electrical lines might ruin the great shot. These can take away from the photo’s focus.

When you take a shot, Magic Eraser can identify potential distractions like people in the background, power lines, and light posts and recommend what you might want to delete. Afterwards, you may select whether to delete them all at once or one by one by tapping.

Based on what you circle, Magic Eraser uses machine learning to figure out what you’re trying to eliminate. Magic Eraser then utilizes machine learning to estimate what the pixels would look like without the distraction.

    Photos

People take numerous photographs, yet the profusion of images makes it easy for memories to go missing. In 2015, Google created AI for Pictures to assist users in searching for images based on their content. Google Photos automatically sorts photos by the people, locations, and objects that are significant. Users no longer need to tag or label any of them, nor do they need to create albums manually.

The app can also swiftly edit and combine photographs to let you relive life’s moments. To improve each photo’s color, lighting, and subject, tap once.

Google has used AI in Photos to let customers recall forgotten “memories.” Memories lets you look back on important images, recent highlights, family experiences, favorite pastimes, and more.

As you move through your photo grid, these memories will appear alongside fresh Best of Month memories and trip highlights.

    YouTube

In order to make films more accessible to a wider audience, including people who are deaf or hard of hearing, YouTube employs AI to generate captions for videos automatically.

    Assistant

Humans speak in a human manner. Until recently, computers did not. Because Assistant uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) AI technology, it can understand and respond in a way that mimics human communication. This enables it to parse the text of your question and attempt to determine its meaning.

AI lets your phone, home, TV, or car comprehend “Hey Google, where’s the closest dog park?” and immediately provide you directions.

    Gmail

Autocomplete and spell check are two AI-powered services that we are all accustomed to using. Yet, if you’ve ever wondered why Gmail is less prone to spam than other email providers, look to artificial intelligence.

Gmail’s AI-powered spam-filtering tools block over 99.9% of spam, phishing attempts, and malware.
