Liquid Intelligent Technologies has launched its Gaborone Metro Ring to empower local companies in Botswana.

According to Liquid, the introduction of the metro ring will take place in two parts. During the first phase, the metro ring will be beneficial to hundreds of enterprises, and during the second phase, it will combine more links.

The tech company explained that the metro ring is a remarkable milestone in the telecommunications infrastructure of Gaborone. This achievement demonstrates the effective partnership between the public and commercial sectors to promote technology, which is greatly to the benefit of Botswana.

Odirille Tamajobe, managing director of liquid Intelligent Technologies, said that the launch of the first phase will reduce tariffs for local and international data products. This will make these products more accessible to small and medium businesses, which were previously at a disadvantage in comparison to larger enterprises.

With the launch of this new programme, Liquid demonstrates its expanding commitment to fostering the expansion of digital connection in Botswana. In the year 2020, Liquid Intelligence completed the installation of 82 kilometres of fibre in a cross-border network located in Botswana. Because of the implementation, a greater number of individuals in Botswana were able to connect to the network of more than 73,000 kilometres of Pan-African fibre owned by Liquid Intelligent Technologies and participate in the digital economy of the entire world.

In addition, the company created a set of technological services in the previous year to assist businesses situated in Botswana in making use of cloud computing in order to maintain their position of competitive advantage over enterprises based in other countries. The most recent initiative will be of assistance to the government’s strategic goal, which is called Botswana Vision 2036. This strategy intends to elevate the status of the country’s economy from that of an upper-middle income to that of a high income during the next 13 years.

“Botswana’s potential to become one of Africa’s expanding economic centres is one step closer to being realised thanks to this effort, which represents a huge step in the right direction. The successful completion of the first phase exemplifies Liquid’s commitment to satisfying the growing demand for connection and is in line with our vision of a digitally connected Botswana in which no one is left behind.

The firm, which is owned by Cassava Tech is of the opinion that expanding access to high-speed fibre connectivity is critical, not only for the promotion of telecommunications services for businesses and individuals, but also of significant social and economic advantages.

According to Liquid, the effort is also in line with the strategic plan developed by the government of Botswana called Botswana Vision 2036. This plan has the objective of elevating the country’s economic standing from upper-middle-income to high-income during the following thirteen years.

The corporation provides the following explanation: “It serves as the prime example of progress towards Botswana’s ambitious goals through technological development.”

The Mauritius Telecom T3 subsea cable linking Mauritius to South Africa has been installed successfully by Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a division of Cassava Technologies, a pan-African technology company.

This cable was installed at Liquid’s landing site at Amanzimtoti, South Africa, just south of Durban. In doing so, the link between the two nations will gain much-needed stability and redundancy.

The total capacity of the T3 cable system is 54 Tbps, with each of the four fibre pairs having a design capacity of 13.5 Tbps. By capitalising on Liquid’s 110,000 km of fibre backbone in Africa, Liquid Intelligent Technologies South Africa is improving access to a high-speed, reliable Internet connection for economies in the Indian Ocean islands.

This partnership will have a good effect by delivering stable internet access to South Africa, as well as by boosting economic growth and helping community development by generating jobs. “This is yet another achievement by Liquid SA as we continue to provide access to high-speed connectivity, the backbone for the country’s businesses to operate and succeed in this digitally transformed business environment,” said Geyser.

What to know about the Mauritius Telecom T3 subsea cable

The T3 fibre optic submarine cable was deployed in Mauritius on March 24 by Mauritius Telecom, the country’s leading internet service provider and distributor of cellular services. The new infrastructure’s first piece arrived in the Bel Ombre area on March 23, 2023, at the Baie-du-Jacotet landing station.

With a capacity of 18 terabits per second and a length of 3,200 km, the T3 cable provides Mauritius Telecom with a more secure, redundant, and stable network. The project is expected to be completed in 2023 and to operate for at least 25 years.

The IOX submarine cable project connecting Mauritius, South Africa, and India has been partially taken over by T3. After being declared in 2017, it was abandoned in 2019. It will connect to the South Africa Far East (SAFE) cable commissioned in 2002 and the Lower Indian Ocean Network (LION) cable commissioned in 2009.

Note that Orange SA, via Rimcom Ltd., owns 40% of Mauritius Telecom. Other owners include the government of Mauritius (more than 30%) and the local bank SBM (approximately 19%).

Liquid Intelligent Technologies and the Zambian government have agreed to work together to expand the availability of low-cost internet connections throughout Zambia.

The people of Zambia will soon have access to a brand-new data centre. This comes as a result of an agreement that was reached by the government of the country stating that Liquid Intelligent Technologies will construct one within the country.

The deal is a component of a larger effort to hasten the digital transformation of the country and to make secure internet connectivity available at prices that are affordable to all Zambians.

More on What Liquid Intelligent will Offer

In addition, the data centre will hopefully fulfil the ever-increasing requirements for the hosting of data that are being placed by regional enterprises.

As a result of the cooperation, Liquid Intelligent Technologies will expand its fibre networks in order to connect additional towns across Zambia, including hospitals, schools, and clinics.

According to a statement released by the company, Liquid will also work with the government to deliver private and public cloud computing services, as well as cyber security solutions, in order to facilitate the digitization of government services.

Cassava Technologies President and Group CEO Hardy Pemhiwa stated, “We recognise the significant efforts that the Zambian government is making to accelerate the country’s digital transformation and share President Hakainde Hichilema’s vision for the development of Zambia’s digital economy.” “We recognise the significant efforts that the Zambian government is making to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.”

The investment made by Liquid in the nation comes at a time when numerous countries across Africa are witnessing a rise in the number of data centres that they operate.

The first open-access, carrier-neutral data centre in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is scheduled to become active in the second quarter of 2023, according to an announcement made by Open Access Data Centres (OADC) in February 2023.

With the beginning of construction on its first Tier III carrier-neutral data centre in the DRC in September 2022, Raxio Group made this announcement shortly thereafter.

The facility in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a part of the wider portfolio of data centres on the African continent that the Raxio Group operates. Other locations on the continent include Uganda, Ethiopia, Mozambique, the Ivory Coast, Tanzania, and Angola.

In the meantime, Africa Data Centres has formed a partnership with the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) to create an agreement that will, in September 2022, provide Nigerians with improved connectivity and reduce the amount of money they spend on bandwidth.

Also, the company announced cooperation with INX-ZA to provide customers in South Africa with remote peering.

    Prior Events

This announcement came after previous expansions in Johannesburg and Accra, and it comes as Africa Data Centres cranks up its African development. Further data centre projects are expected to be constructed in some of Africa’s largest cities, such as Abidjan, Lagos, Cairo, and Casablanca.

The corporation that operates data centres began construction on new facilities in Nairobi, Kenya and Cape Town, South Africa, in January of 2023.

The fact that Liquid intends to construct a data centre in Zambia may hasten the process of digital transformation while also providing Zambians with access that is both dependable and inexpensive.

By the beginning of the year 2023, there were 4.3 million people using the internet in Zambia, but the country’s Internet penetration rate was only 21.2%. These statistics come from Data reporting.

In addition, the research firm found that Zambia had 2.7 million people using social media in January 2023, which corresponds to 13.3% of the country’s total population. By the beginning of the year 2023, Zambia had over 16 million active cellular mobile connections, which was equivalent to 80.6% of the country’s total population.

The current collaboration between Liquid Intelligent Technologies and the Zambian government would make access to the internet cheaper for Zambians.
