SMART Zambia Institute announced on Friday the successful development of an electronic Know Your Customer (eKYC) solution, signifying an important turning point in the nation’s digital transformation process.
The eKYC solution aims to improve the security and effectiveness of identity verification procedures. It has been set up in both staging and production environments.
Additionally, sample devices have been registered for registration and verification reasons.

The Cabinet Office has sent a circular instruction to all Ministries, Provinces, and Agencies (MPAs) requesting that they submit contact information for every employee to update the eKYC solution, according to Mr. Frank Kalemba, Assistant Director of Systems Development at SMART Zambia.
“However, the loading of data is progressing slowly due to delays in submissions, with only 13 Ministries and 10 Provinces submitting information so far,” he said.
“The eKYC solution has been demonstrated to top government officials, including the Secretary to Cabinet and Permanent Secretaries from various Ministries. Additionally, the solution has been showcased to the Senior management of the Public Service Micro Finance Company and the Permanent Secretary of Education.”

According to Kalemba, the procurement procedure for obtaining the equipment and kits needed for enrolling and validation has been finished; however, the finalisation is pending funding availability.
He further stated that the Secretary to the Cabinet has already been provided with the projected cost of the kits and equipment.
“The validation/verification of Civil Servants has commenced with SMART Zambia staff, and the exercise will soon be rolled out to other MPSAs, with Luapula Province being targeted for completion.”
