Fleri offers African immigrants alternative family health care

Fleri is a platform for migrant family care that has introduced a means for people who have migrated overseas to find and manage healthcare access for their loved ones back home. This website offers an alternative to sending cash home for medical expenditures.

For as low as $120 per year, immigrants in North America, including the United States and Canada, as well as the United Kingdom, are able to purchase health insurance coverage for their families.

After they have become members of the organisation, they will have the ability to be included as beneficiaries in their home countries of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mali, Senegal, Algeria, and Ghana as many members of their immediate families as they are responsible for.

Consider it a sort of health insurance in which you join your husband and children to a health insurance plan; the key difference with Fleri, however, is that the person who registers their loved ones must be in the diaspora in order for them to be eligible for coverage.

How Fleri works

The company said: “What you get is a family care manager who will look after your loved ones and check in with them every two weeks. We give each beneficiary an assigned primary carer with whom they can ask questions and schedule medical appointments.”

Instead of paying them a visit once every two weeks, the family care manager calls and checks in with their loved ones over WhatsApp instead of physically going to see them. This is due to the fact that the member may have various family members who are located in different places.

Carers offer advice and help create preventative care routines for their charges. The company provides a variety of services related to care coordination, such as consultations and meetings with specialists. In addition, Baddoo asserts that Fleri makes all necessary efforts to guarantee that the members’ loved ones receive the care that is required for them, and Fleri receives high praise for this.

Monthly beneficiary wellness reports are distributed by Fleri to each and every beneficiary that a member has added. It is equipped with a health emergency fund, which enables the business to pay for unexpected medical expenses in advance. The immigrant has around 14 days to make the repayment with no interest charged. According to Baddoo, members can access this feature because they have a paid subscription to the service.

Because not all beneficiaries have the same health concerns or life experiences, more care may be necessary for some of them, even if they are receiving preventative treatment. Consequently, members can use its health marketplace to locate a care plan that is appropriate for their loved ones, such as Mental Health, Chronic Care, Elderly Care, At-Home Care, or Emergency Responses.

Tangerine Africa, Reliance Health, AXA Mansard, MyCover.ai, and WellaHealth are just a few health maintenance organisations (HMOs) and healthtech firms that Fleri works with within these African countries. In addition to this, it collaborates with several financial partners to handle escrow accounts and payments made to various healthcare providers.

This service can be accessed online, and there is also a help desk that prospective clients can phone to speak with an employee who can guide them through the procedure.

How Fleri handles competition

Fleri is aware, just like other businesses in the same industry, that clients contribute money for a variety of reasons, including medical expenses. Because of this, there is no longer a requirement for members of the family to receive care largely in the form of monetary transfers because goods and essential partnerships are developed that directly enable the necessary care.

Nevertheless, Sam Baddoo, the CEO of the healthtech startup, says that Fleri stands out because it focuses on immigration rather than merely healthcare, underlining that it understands the issues that immigrants have and develops unique solutions to address those challenges.

He claims that the young company has a novel strategy, explaining that its non-transactional approach to consumer involvement comprises signing up these immigrants as members of the organisation. After that, it makes use of their relationship to provide them with the care they require as opposed to compulsion or coercion to accept a particular kind of care.

Fleri is of the opinion that its clients, and not the company itself, are the ones who decide what their requirements are. It does this by working together with them to assist them in meeting the requirements of their families, which ultimately results in satisfied customers.

“If it is a surgery, Fleri can assist you in covering it. We can also help you cover it if you need to travel to another country for medical treatment or if it’s a referral to another provider or medication,” the company remarked.

Several investors, such as Village Capital, ODBA, Launch Africa, Techstars, and Founders Factory Africa, have provided funding for the company so far.
