The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI) has collaborated with SIHI Nigeria Hub to organize a virtual cafe on innovations for improving access to healthcare among Nigerian youth.
The virtual cafe will come up on November 25, 2022. This is the ministry’s first activity after it established the Technology and Innovation Centres (TICs).
At the beginning of this month, the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation had made a press release, commending Nigeria for being the first to adopt recommendations of the African Forum on Research and Innovation (FARI).
In the released statement, the minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Sen. Dr. Adeleke Olorunimbe Mamora, said that Nigeria is the first county in the entire ECOWAS Sub-region to comply with the recommendations of FARI substantially.

Benefits of TICs Virtual Cafe
At the South-West Zonal Dialogue between government and stakeholders of the Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem held in Lagos, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Mrs Monilola Udoh spiked on the benefits of TICs in Nigeria.
First, to find the best way to ensure that products and services in the country are made to compete with the very best in the world.
Secondly, to improve in the present understanding of the role of Science, Technology and Innovation in the socioeconomic development of Nigeria by the general public.
She said that TICs are created to move Nigeria from a resource to a knowledge-based economy, that is, consumption to production.
Lastly, TICs are for the reduction and stoppage of the present Research and Development (R&D) work in Nigeria being carried out in silos.
What FMSTI Has Been Up To
The ministry has been involved in various activities and projects before the establishment of Technology and Innovation Centres (TICs).
This range from formulation, monitoring and review of the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation to attain the macro-economic and social objectives of Vision 20:2020 as it relates to science and technology
To acquire and application of Science, Technology and Innovation contribution to increasing agricultural and livestock productivity.
With better electricity in view, Increasing energy reliance through sustainable Research and Development (R&D) in nuclear, renewable and alternative energy sources for peaceful and development purposes
Promotion of wealth creation through support to key industrial and manufacturing sectors
Creation of Technology infrastructure and knowledge base of facilitate its wide application for development.
Application of natural medicine resources and technologies for health sector development
Acquisition and application of Space Science and Technology as a key driver of economic development and, lastly, ensuring the impact of R&D results in the Nigerian economy through the promotion of indigenous research capacity to facilitate technology transfer
About FMSTI Nigeria
The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Nigeria, is one of the strategic Ministries of Government saddled with the responsibility of facilitating the development and deployment of Science, Technology and Innovation to enhance the pace of socioeconomic development of the country.
It was formerly headed by a minister, Dr. Ogbonnaya Oni who was appointed by President Mohammadu Buhari in November 2015 and a permanent secretary, Dr.(Mrs) Amina Muhammed Shamaki.
The ministry is now headed by a new minister, Sen. Dr Adeleke Olorunimbe Mamora with Mrs Monilola Udoh as the permanent secretary.
