Ecobank Uganda and SurePay digitise tuition payment for school parents

On April 5, 2025, Ecobank Uganda and SurePay announced a groundbreaking partnership to digitise school fee payments nationwide. This collaboration introduces a free, secure, and user-friendly digital platform that simplifies transactions between parents and schools.

Enhancing convenience and efficiency

The new system allows schools to open an account with Ecobank and then be integrated into the SurePay platform, enabling seamless fee collections.

Parents can make payments through various channels, including the Ecobank Mobile App, Quick Teller-Interswitch, over-the-counter services, and ABC Agents nationwide.

Elizabeth Mwerinde Kassedde, Head of Commercial Banking at Ecobank Uganda, emphasized, “Today, Ecobank and SurePay come together to enhance convenience and efficiency in school payments. This partnership supports digital financial solutions that will significantly transform the education ecosystem.”

The platform offers real-time processing, ensuring that payments are instantly transferred to the school’s Ecobank account, eliminating manual tracking delays. Both parents and schools receive instant SMS notifications confirming transactions, while unique student codes simplify payment tracking for administrators.

Additionally, the system provides automated reconciliation tools and real-time student record updates, enhancing schools’ financial management.

Supporting educational institutions

Ecobank has committed up to UGX 1 billion as part of this initiative to support school asset expansion and working capital, focusing on women-owned institutions.

Managing Director of Ecobank Uganda, Grace Muriisa, noted, “In educated societies, people are more likely to support the vulnerable, make informed decisions, and contribute to economic stability.” The partnership aims to onboard 300 new schools to Ecobank’s banking network this year, leveraging SurePay’s experience managing school ecosystems.
