A well-known Pay-TV company called MultiChoice has changed its smartphone apps from “DStv” to “DStv Stream.” With this update, DStv’s streaming-only customers can now watch their material on up to two devices at the same time for a fraction of the price of a full stand alone subscription.
One of the most important new parts of the updated app is the “Extra Mobile Stream ” feature, which lets customers stream material on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop in addition to their mainstream.
The Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, and Access packages all have this function turned on by default. But users have the option to turn off the extra stream and keep paying the same prices if they’d rather.
The price of “Extra Mobile Stream” depends on what deal the customer has signed up for. For example, “Extra Mobile Stream” adds R100 to the monthly cost of the top-tier DStv Stream Premium plan, making it R799 instead of the usual R699.
Also, the “Extra Mobile Stream” on the Compact Plus package costs R110, so the usual 2-stream plan now costs R579 instead of R469 for the 1-stream package. This is especially interesting since the Premium plan has more material than the Compact Plus plan.
The “Extra Mobile Stream” costs R80 for users with the Compact package, R50 for those with the Family package, and R30 for those with the Access package. These choices are good for people with different tastes and budgets.
Overall, the redesigned DStv Stream app with “Extra Mobile Stream” is meant to give users a more flexible and versatile streaming experience while also meeting the needs of traditional satellite package customers.

Streaming-only package for DStv Satellite users
Users of the DStv satellite service can also get the streaming-only package through the EasyView package, which costs just R29 per month. Even though this package doesn’t have the choice to add an extra stream, it does work with DStv’s R79 per month Latest Movies add-on package.
This option is available on all tiers, and DStv Stream Premium comes with it. The last package also comes with a free membership to the streaming service Showmax from MultiChoice. The other packages get a 50% discount on the service.
Netflix faces more competition
In 2022, Netflix made a big change by adding a new feature that charged users who let other people use their accounts. Now, in the year 2023, the streaming giant has taken more steps to stop people from sharing passwords. This time, the prices for accounts with multiple profiles for different homes have gone up.
The goal of this choice is to get people to have separate accounts for each household instead of using the same account for more than one person. Also, Multichoice, a big player in the streaming market on the African continent, is now thinking about adding a similar feature.
This move could be a big part of the company’s marketing plan if it wants to strengthen its presence and control in the area. Multichoice’s success in Africa can be explained in part by the fact that it focuses on local material that is popular with viewers in the area.
