  • FIFA or PES? After decades of rivalry, one game takes the lead

FIFA or PES? After decades of rivalry, one game takes the lead

Football video game fans have been locked in a passionate debate for decades: FIFA or PES? These two giants—FIFA, developed by EA Sports, and Pro Evolution Soccer (PES), created by Konami—have defined the genre, each offering distinct experiences that cater to different tastes. As of March 20, 2025, with FIFA now rebranded as EA Sports FC and PES transformed into the free-to-play eFootball, the rivalry has evolved, but the core question remains: which is better? This article dives into their strengths, weaknesses, and what makes each title stand out, helping you decide which reigns supreme.

Licensing and authenticity: FIFA’s unmatched edge

When it comes to authenticity, FIFA has long held the upper hand. EA Sports’ deep pockets and extensive licensing agreements bring real-world teams, players, leagues, and tournaments—like the UEFA Champions League and Premier League—into the game with stunning accuracy. As of its latest iterations, FIFA (now EA Sports FC) boasts over 19,000 players, 700 teams, and 30 leagues, all with official kits, logos, and stadiums. This level of detail creates an immersive experience that mirrors televised football, appealing to fans who crave realism.

PES, on the other hand, has historically struggled with licensing. While it secured exclusive rights to clubs like Juventus and Barcelona in recent years, many teams—like Manchester United appearing as “Man Red”—rely on generic names and kits. Though PES offers option files for fans to update rosters manually, this workaround pales compared to FIFA’s out-of-the-box authenticity. For casual players or those prioritising official branding, FIFA’s dominance in this area is hard to beat.

Gameplay: PES’s realistic soul vs. FIFA’s polished arcade feel

Gameplay is where the debate heats up. PES has long been celebrated for its realistic mechanics, offering a slower, more deliberate pace that mirrors actual football. Passing, dribbling, and ball physics feel weighty and precise, rewarding tactical mastery over flashy moves. Fans often praise PES for making every goal feel earned with AI that adapts dynamically to your play style. Even as eFootball, the series retains this focus, though its transition to a new engine has introduced some growing pains.

FIFA, by contrast, leans into a faster, arcade-style approach. Its gameplay is fluid and accessible, with intuitive controls that make it easy to pick up and play. Features like the Active Touch System and timed finishing add depth, but the emphasis on pace and physicality can sometimes overshadow strategy. While FIFA has closed the realism gap in recent years—slowing down play and refining ball control—it still caters to a broader audience with its polished, entertainment-driven feel. Hardcore simulation fans may prefer PES, but FIFA’s balance of fun and finesse often wins over the masses.

Graphics and presentation: FIFA’s flash vs. PES’s detail

Visually, FIFA tends to outshine PES with its superior presentation. Powered by the Frostbite engine (and now Hypermotion technology in EA Sports FC), FIFA delivers lifelike player models, detailed stadiums, and cinematic broadcast packages that mimic real-world football. Commentary from icons like Martin Tyler adds to the immersive vibe, though some criticise the animations as occasionally “rubbery.”

PES, using Unreal Engine in its eFootball era, excels in finer details—sweat on players’ faces, realistic lighting, and smooth animations—but lacks the same breadth of licensed content to showcase. Its stadiums and unlicensed teams can feel less vibrant, and commentary (often featuring Peter Drury) has been a weak point. While PES nails individual player likenesses for licensed stars, FIFA’s overall polish and scale give it the edge in presentation.

Game modes: FIFA’s variety vs. PES’s focus

FIFA’s strength lies in its diverse game modes. FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) remains a juggernaut, letting players build dream squads through card packs and a bustling transfer market, albeit with controversial microtransactions. Career Mode offers deep management options, while Volta Football brings street-style flair. This variety keeps FIFA engaging for solo and online players alike.

PES counters Master League, a robust single-player mode with RPG elements like cutscenes and tactical depth, appealing to fans of long-term management. MyClub, PES’s answer to FUT, is simpler and less microtransaction-heavy but lacks the same addictive pull. As eFootball, PES has shifted to a live-service model with fewer modes, focusing on online play, disappointing some traditional fans. FIFA’s broader offerings make it the winner in terms of versatility.

    Sales and community: FIFA’s dominance

Commercially, FIFA has consistently outpaced PES. By 2023, FIFA had sold over 325 million units worldwide, dwarfing PES’s 111 million, cementing its status as the best-selling sports video game franchise. This success fuels a larger online community, better matchmaking, and more robust esports support. Despite a loyal following—especially in Japan—PES has struggled to match FIFA’s global reach, a gap widened by Konami’s shift to eFootball’s free-to-play model in 2021, which saw mixed reception.

    The verdict: Which Is better?

So, which is better—FIFA or PES? It depends on what you value. If you prioritise authenticity, slick presentation, and a wealth of modes, FIFA (now EA Sports FC) is the clear choice. Its licensing, polish, and mass appeal make it the go-to for casual fans and competitive players.

However, if realistic gameplay and a simulation-focused experience matter most, PES (or eFootball) still holds a special allure despite its licensing woes and recent stumbles.

As of March 20, 2025, FIFA’s evolution into EA Sports FC continues to refine its formula while eFootball experiments with a new identity. Neither is perfect—FIFA’s microtransactions and PES’s limited scope have their critics—but both offer compelling takes on virtual football. For the average player, FIFA’s all-around package likely tips the scales. Yet, for purists who savour the art of the game, PES’s soulful gameplay might just steal the win. As for me, I’d pick FIFA any day over PES, but the ball’s in your court—pick your side and kick-off!

Infinix Hot 50 Pro review: 50MP camera, long-lasting battery and the price is a steal!

The Infinix Hot 50 Pro, launched in October 2024, has graced the world of budget smartphones. This phone offers premium features at an accessible price point.

Techpression has taken an in-depth look at the phone’s offerings and here’s what we found.

Design, build and performance of the Infinix Hot 50 Pro

The Infinix Hot 50 Pro showcases a sleek design, making it one of the slimmest in its category. With dimensions of 8.3mm in thickness and a weight of 188g, the Infinix phone feels light and easy to manage. Its 6.78-inch AMOLED display brings vivid colours to life and supports a 120Hz refresh rate for fluid interaction. Gorilla Glass offers protection, ensuring the Infinix Hot 50 Pro can withstand daily wear and tear. The back panel comes in various finishes, including a unique vegan leather option, adding a touch of elegance.

Powered by the MediaTek Helio G100, the Infinix Hot 50 Pro ensures smooth performance, whether multitasking or gaming. With 8GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 128GB to 256GB of UFS 2.2, the Infinix device keeps pace with the demands of modern apps and games.

Camera – Infinix Hot 50 Pro

Though it’s not functionally significant, the Infinix Hot 50 Pro’s camera system includes a 50MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and an additional sensor for aesthetic balance. The primary camera delivers decent photo quality in good lighting and uses pixel-binning technology to improve detail. The front 13MP camera is adequate for selfies but we can’t recommend it for pictures in dimly lit spaces. Its low-light performance leaves room for improvement.

Battery and charging – Infinix Hot 50 Pro

With a 5000mAh battery, the Infinix Hot 50 Pro promises all-day battery life under normal to heavy usage. It supports 33W fast charging, which is convenient for quickly replenishing power, although faster charging options would have been welcome.

    Software – Infinix

The Infinix Hot 50 Pro runs on Android 14 with Infinix’s XOS 14.5 overlay, offering a customisable yet familiar interface. However, the presence of bloatware might not appeal to everyone. The commitment to one major OS update might be a consideration for those looking for long-term software support.

    Connectivity and additional features

While the Infinix Hot 50 Pro supports 4G LTE, it lacks 5G connectivity, which could be a consideration for future-proofing. For modern connectivity, it includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.3, and a USB-C port. Additional features like JBL-tuned stereo speakers, an always-on display, and an under-display fingerprint sensor enhance the user experience.

Price and availability – Infinix Hot 50 Pro

The Infinix Hot 50 Pro is competitively priced at around $245 and aims to deliver value without compromising features. Although availability might vary, it’s primarily seen in regions like Africa, South America, and South Asia.

The Infinix Hot 50 Pro is commendable for those seeking a stylish, functional smartphone on a budget. Its design, display, and battery life are highlights, though the lack of 5G and limited software updates might be cons to consider. If you’re looking for a budget device from Infinix that doesn’t skimp on aesthetics or performance, the Infinix Hot 50 Pro could be the perfect match.

  • Fortnite unifies Battle Passes: Say goodbye to mode-specific currencies

Fortnite unifies Battle Passes: Say goodbye to mode-specific currencies

Epic Games expands Fortnite away from typical battle royale offerings by connecting all its battle passes into one. Beginning November 2, players can level up through all available passes using XP earned from any game mode, removing the necessity of having separate currency for each game mode: LEGO Fortnite and Music-themed Fortnite Festival. This update is essential to make everything as simple as before, while Fortnite has become a diverse place for every person with different things to do.

Until this point, players could only earn mode-specific points such as “studs” for the LEGO Fortnite or “festival points” for the Fortnite Festival, respectively, to level up through the respective passes.

Starting on November 2, Fortnite’s Music Pass, known as the Festival Pass, will be the initial one to ditch festival points. Starting a LEGOLAND promotion, “Brick or Treat Pass” on December 1 will replace the “studs.” This will also be the final season of ‘Battle Stars for Fortnite’s main battle pass; instead, all are under one XP system.

New features include primary and secondary rewards and new ways of access

Previously, players needed to go to the Epic Games Store’s website to redeem codes; now Epic says players can obtain those missions and grants in-game currency “by simply downloading an installer that will allow players to get content on their PC.”

Subsequent LEGO and Music Passes released after December 1st will feature one progress track for a Battle Pass with free and premium reward pools for those wanting to buy them. Before that, players can buy some rewards immediately from a pass without going through the difficulty involved in levelling up to unlock a particular portion of the pass.

Besides, to make players’ work even more convenient, Epic has announced its intention to purchase all battle passes at once. Previously, you had to buy each separately. This makes the progression system less complicated yet engaging and allows people play through the vast Fortnite world at their own pace.

Laying down groundwork for the next chapter in Fortnite

This occurs as Fortnite’s current Marvel-themed season draws to a close and culminates with a live event, which Epic has hinted at the Remix island from Chapter 2 to occur at Saturday at 2 AM ET. This touch fits with Fortnite’s general mission to become a highly layered and expansive experience with different layers where players may recreate previous events and simultaneously go on new exciting missions.

It appears Epic Games is test-running a new approach with Battle Pass to making Fortnite not only a game but something that offers something for every type of player. These Battle Pass updates are just being unveiled weeks before the current Marvel-themed season is set to end this Saturday at 2 AM ET. Epic Games has started mentioning the upcoming live event ending the season and suggested that the next “Remix” season returns players to the Chapter 2 island, which means another nice walk through the story of Fortnite.

Apple intends to include state-of-the-art camera technology in its AirPods range, most likely for commercial release by 2026. Apple is moving significantly towards integrating wearable technology into audio and visual experiences.

Said to be codenamed B798, the future AirPods will incorporate infrared (IR) cameras meant to capture ambient data and enhance user experience with AI-powered characteristics.

How the Apple AirPods act as a leap in wearable technology

Including cameras on AirPods significantly changes Apple’s approach to wearable gadgets. These infrared cameras, combined with Apple’s Vision Pro, will collect spatial data to guide music depending on the user’s gaze, enhancing spatial audio. This invention makes technology more approachable and practical for daily use since it has features like smart glasses without heavy frames and lenses.

Among its most fascinating features is the possibility of air motions supported by these camera-equipped AirPods. Simple hand gestures allow Uscane to engage with its devices, producing a more immersive and easy experience. This capability complements Apple’s ambition of improving spatial computing, enabling more fluid and natural interactions with digital material.

Many patent filings on IR camera technology and spatial computing highlight Apple’s dedication to this creative breakthrough. These patents expose the company’s intentions to build a robust ecosystem whereby gadgets interact effortlessly, improving entertainment and productivity. Applonly creates a new benchmark for wireless earrings by including these cutting-edge technologies, opening the path for following wearable technology developments.

Apple’s development of these sophisticated AirPods has huge market implications. By combining cameras and artificial intelligence (AI), Apple might inspire fresh uses in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), therefore establishing Apple as a leader in both of these developing domains.

The company’s emphasis on spatial computing points to a more extensive ecosystem meant to improve users’ interactions with their surroundings and digital information, such as these AirPods.

An exciting innovation is adding cameras to AirPods, raising privacy issues. Apple must ensure strong privacy protections are in place to handle such issues. Apple’s forthcoming AirPods with built-in cameras will transform the wearable tech scene. These updated AirPods combine audio and visual powers to provide improved spatial audio, support air motions, and flawlessly connect with Apple’s larger ecosystem.

These technologies should establish a new benchmark for wireless earphones and open the path for future augmented and virtual reality developments as mass manufacturing starts in 2026.

  • Why are Tesla Cybertrucks being recalled?

Why are Tesla Cybertrucks being recalled?

Many mocked the Tesla Cybertrucks with wide, amateurish panel gaps, corrosion, and an ergonomic cheese grater-like design. However, its worst issue has recalled roughly 4,000 automobiles.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Association recalled 3,878 Tesla Cybertrucks made between November 13 and April 4. The accelerator pedal is problematic. Its pad can come off, trapping the pedal in the trim above it. Naturally, this is horrible.

In its recall notice, the NHTSA stated, “If the pad on the accelerator pedal becomes trapped in the interior trim above the pedal, the performance and operation of the pedal will be affected, which may increase the risk of a collision.

Tesla Cybertrucks accelerator pad safety concerns

It confirms a social media incident from earlier this week. A TikTok video from a Tesla Cybertruck owner appears to demonstrate this issue. “As I’m driving, this slid up,” the poster said, removing his accelerator pad. “This sliding up and still hooked onto the pedal held the accelerator down 100%.”

According to the NHTSA, cybertruck owners are saved by the brake overriding the accelerator. However, when a nearly 7,000-pound electric car suddenly accelerates, not all drivers are calm enough to act.

Tesla developed its first Cybertruck in July 2023. The NHTSA claims the business added soap to the assembly line before mass production. The goal was to make attaching the accelerator pad to the pedal easier.

Unfortunately, it made the pad more straightforward to remove. “Residual lubricant reduced pad-pedal retention,” the NHTSA recall notification states.

The NHTSA says a Tesla Cybertruck customer reported the issue on March 31. Tesla engineers confirmed two days later that the accelerator was fully engaged and that the brake pedal stopped the Cybertruck using the impacted vehicle’s data logs. On April 3, another customer notice arrived. Tesla acquired photographs of the initial event and conducted its tests within a week. It ordered a voluntary recall on April 12.

Tesla Cybertruck owners are Required to Visit Service Centers.

The timetable matches rumours that Tesla halted Cybertruck deliveries earlier this week. Musk’s late Wednesday tweet on X appeared to confirm the situation. He wrote, “There were no injuries or accidents because of this.” “We are very cautious,” Telsa said nothing.

Read also: Elon Musk to lay off 10% of Tesla’s global workforce

The incident is another setback for Cybertruck and Tesla. The company’s stock has plummeted this year as competition from China heats up and plans for a cheaper electric vehicle are ditched to favour robotaxis.

In December, the business recalled virtually all of its vehicles to repair a bug in its Autopilot software, which it fixed over the phone. The business has been distracted by a shareholder dispute over Musk’s pay and X’s struggles.

According to the NHTSA, Tesla introduced a new accelerator pedal component by April 17, and Tesla Cybertruck deliveries resumed. Since there is no software patch for soap, Tesla cybertruck owners must bring their vehicles to service centres for free repair.
