Globacom’s recent denial of owing  MTN Nigeria has sparked considerable interest and speculation within the telecommunications industry.

The two giant telecom companies have been embroiled in a dispute over alleged outstanding debts, and Globacom’s firm denial has added another layer of complexity to the ongoing saga.

In a statement released by Globacom, the telecommunications giant categorically refuted any claims of indebtedness to MTN Nigeria.

The statement emphasised that Globacom operates with utmost integrity and transparency, adhering to all financial obligations in its business dealings. The company went further to assert that any accusations of unpaid debts were baseless and lacked merit.

MTN Nigeria, on the other hand, had earlier asserted that Globacom owed substantial sums for services rendered. The nature and details of these services were not explicitly outlined, leading to increased speculation and uncertainty among industry observers. The initial claims by MTN Nigeria triggered a wave of discussions within the business and telecommunications community, with stakeholders closely monitoring the unfolding situation.

As the public awaits further developments, it is essential to consider the potential impact of this dispute on both companies and the broader telecommunications landscape. Financial disagreements between major players in the industry can have ripple effects, affecting investor confidence, regulatory scrutiny, and the overall stability of the market.

Globacom’s denial suggests a willingness to contest the allegations and protect its reputation. In the highly competitive telecommunications sector, maintaining a positive public image is crucial for attracting customers and investors. Any perceived financial irregularities can erode trust and have long-term repercussions for a company’s standing in the market.

    The Evolving Telecommunications Landscape

The timing of this dispute is noteworthy, considering the evolving landscape of the telecommunications industry. The sector has witnessed significant technological advancements, increased competition, and changing consumer preferences. Against this backdrop, the financial stability and strategic decisions of key players like Globacom and MTN Nigeria are closely scrutinized by industry analysts and stakeholders.

Moreover , the telecommunications landscape in Nigeria has undergone significant evolution in recent years, reshaping the way people communicate, access information, and conduct business. With a population exceeding 200 million, Nigeria has witnessed a surge in mobile phone usage, fueled by increased affordability and accessibility of devices.

The resolution of this dispute may hinge on various factors, including contractual agreements, financial records, and potentially, legal proceedings. Both companies will likely engage in negotiations to reach a mutually acceptable resolution. The outcome could set a precedent for how financial disputes are handled within the telecommunications sector, impacting future business relationships and contractual arrangements.

Regulatory bodies may also play a pivotal role in overseeing and mediating the dispute. In many jurisdictions, telecommunications regulators have mechanisms in place to address conflicts between operators, ensuring fair competition and consumer protection. The involvement of regulatory authorities adds another layer of complexity to the resolution process and may influence the final outcome.

Lastly , Globacom’s denial of owing MTN Nigeria introduces a new chapter in the ongoing dispute between these telecommunications giants. The repercussions of this disagreement extend beyond the companies involved, affecting investors, consumers, and the broader industry. As the situation unfolds, stakeholders will closely watch for developments, seeking clarity on the nature of the alleged debts and the eventual resolution of this high-stakes dispute.

  • LG’s 2023 TV lineup offers outstanding picture quality, sound

LG’s 2023 TV lineup offers outstanding picture quality, sound

The new television lineup that LG Electronics (LG) has introduced for the year 2023 features a variety of technological innovations that are aimed at giving greater picture quality, sound performance, and usability.

This line-up is highlighted by the OLED evo C3, the company’s most technologically sophisticated series of OLED televisions to date.

The latest OLED TVs from LG elevate viewing experiences in a way that only LG OLED is capable of doing. These new TVs have premium self-lit picture quality, sophisticated image processing technologies, and an improved webOS platform that offers even more smart features and services.

It’s been ten years since LG was the first company to release an OLED television, and in that time, a lot of things have changed. What is brand new for the large televisions of 2023, and should we be enthusiastic about it? This year marks something of an anniversary for televisions since OLED displays are turning ten years old. Although it may be hard to believe, this year marks the occasion.ws

    Comments from LG’s Executives

“At LG, we are committed to continuous innovation across our home entertainment products, and our 2023 TV range is no exception. And as our technologies have evolved, so has the role of the TV in Nigerian homes,” said Choongbae Seok, General Manager, TV Division, LG Electronics West African Operations.

“Whether it be the hub where people gather for the latest sporting match, game, or movie, or a statement piece positioned to impress invited guests, this year we are providing a television for every consumer,” he said.

The precision and performance of LG OLED evo technology, along with the brand new a9 AI Processor Gen6, allow the C3 OLED evo to give increased brightness and colour accuracy, in addition to exceptional clarity and detail. This is made possible by the combination of the two technologies. It is available in 83-, 77-, and 65-inch lengths.

The other range is comprised of the QNED 81 Series (75″, 65″), the Nano 77 Series (75″, 65″, 55″), and the UHD UR Series (75”, 65″, 55″, 50″).

TVs from LG now have a more streamlined appearance and a narrower bezel to better suit the furnishings in your house. Invest in a better viewing experience so you can appreciate lifelike colours and breath-taking detail in true 4K.

Not content to just develop goods and services that make people’s lives easier, LG keeps pushing the boundaries of technological advancement. The LG OLED TVs of the year 2023 are designed to be more gentle to the environment, beginning with their manufacturing and continuing all the way through to their disposal, establishing sustainable cycles.

Because there is no backlighting unit in an LG OLED TV, the production of each TV requires a lower volume of materials than that of a standard LED TV.

They even come packaged in eco-packaging that is made from recyclable materials and features printing in a single colour. This is in addition to the fact that many of their components are manufactured from recycled polymers.

The OLED television model 2023 produced by LG has received certification by TÜV Rheinland as having low levels of blue light and flicker-free operation from UL Solutions, making it easier on viewers’ eyes.

The OLED C3 has been praised by media outlets such as CNET, which stated that the device “sets the standard for the picture quality of high-end TVs.”

The LG OLED C3 has arrived with updated picture processing that improves HDR, an appealing design, a revamped smart TV interface, and a plethora of capabilities that will appeal to both gamers and movie enthusiasts. This information was provided by TechRadar. The evaluation pointed out that “LG has delivered another winner with the C3 OLED.”

The following items are included in the LG 2023 television lineup:

    Quicker HDMI switching

A lot of HDMI 2.1a features can be used with the new LG OLED TV models, and the C3 versions still have 4 ports.

These TVs are also the first ones to be approved by the HDMI group for the brand-new Quick Media Switching VRR (QMS-VRR) feature. When you switch between materials from different sources connected to the TV’s HDMI 2.1a ports, QMS-VRR gets rid of the brief black screen. This can only be done with source devices that are approved for HDMI 2.1 QMS VR.

    Gaming is still a focus

LG OLED and QNED TVs have a response time of 0.1 ms, low input lag, and up to four HDMI 2.1a ports for the best gameplay experience. Game Optimizer is another feature that comes with LG OLED TVs. It lets users quickly choose and switch between game-related features like game-type display presets.

The Game Optimizer also makes it easy to change the settings for Nvidia G-Sync, FreeSync Premium, and variable frame rate (VRR).

    Improved picture and sound quality

LG’s latest Alpha processor uses deep learning technology driven by AI to make sure the picture and sound quality are great. Better upscaling in AI Picture Pro makes images clearer, and better dynamic tone mapping helps each picture show more depth and detail.

AI Picture Pro also has picture processing technology that can identify objects or faces and make them look better so that the HDR quality is more like real life.

Through the TV’s built-in speakers, AI Sound Pro also delivers virtual 9.1.2 surround sound, which makes watchers feel even more connected to what’s happening on screen.

    Enhanced webOS and software

This year’s models come with the newest version of webOS and the brand-new All New Home user interface, which gives you more ways to customise your experience and makes it more comfortable.

With the new Quick Cards, users can quickly get to the apps and material they use most. The cards are organised into useful groups, like home office, gaming, music, and sports.

Using information about how people watch TV and what they like, the more advanced webOS makes it easy for people to get suggestions that are specifically made for them.

Rema’s Calm Down hits one billion streams on Spotify

The song “Calm Down” by the Nigerian singer Rema (whose real name is Divine Ikubor) is the first track by an African artist to enter Spotify‘s billions of streams club. This indicates that the chart-topping single that features Selena Gomez has amassed more than one billion streams on Spotify.

Additionally, he is ranked among the top 10 Afrobeats artists with the most streams on the platform. Afrobeats is still one of the most popular musical genres in 2022, as evidenced by the fact that it has been streamed more than 13 billion times on Spotify and has artists like as Burna Boy and Ayra Starr.

The song “Calm Down” was the first single to be published by Rema, and it was taken from his debut studio album, which was titled “Raves and Roses.” The song was successful in Europe, climbing to the top spot in the charts of Belgium’s Ultratop 50, the Netherlands’ Top 40, and the Netherlands’ Single Top 100.

The song reached its highest position in the United Kingdom at number three on the UK Singles Chart and remained there for a total of twenty-seven weeks, but these weeks were not consecutive.

The collaboration between Rema and the American singer Selena Gomez resulted in a new version of “Calm Down” that was released on August 25, 2022. The remix version was phenomenally successful on the charts, reaching number one on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart as well as the Billboard Global Excl. US chart.

In addition to that, it climbed all the way up to the third spot on the Global 200 chart. It reached its highest position on the renowned Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, where it peaked at number three. This marked Rema’s first entrance in the top ten category, while it was Gomez’s ninth inclusion overall.

It remained at the top of the Afrobeats Songs chart in the United States for an incredible 45 weeks in a row, which is an impressive accomplishment. It also topped the charts for all genres of radio play in the United States, including Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay, and Radio Songs. All three of these charts were for pop music.

This accomplishment marked Rema’s first number-one hit on either of these charts, while it was also Gomez’s first number-one on the charts containing only female artists. In addition to this, it has climbed all the way to number one on the Canadian Hot 100 chart as of the 13th of May, 2023.

This milestone is absolutely remarkable for Rema, marking a pivotal moment for this talented artist and the entire Afrobeats community. • LG TV enhances modern viewing experience

LG TV enhances modern viewing experience

LG offers ultra-large TV sets that enhance the viewing experience of their customers. The benefits of owning a large-screen TV from LG are analyzed further in this article to enable you to make the best choice.

In every LG showroom, there is a room that has been constructed to look like a house, and it simulates the viewing distance from the sofa to the TV, as stated by Mr. Choongbae Seok, Product Manager for LG Electronics West Africa Operations, Home Entertainment, TV Division.

This makes it easier to picture the size of the house and the television that would work best in it. Seok found that many purchasers now wish they had chosen a larger screen after realising they made a mistake by purchasing a TV with a smaller screen. This is true even though some individuals may have worries about the size of the TV.

Some LG TVs to choose from

When shopping for an extremely large television, one of the most important considerations is the viewing distance, or the distance between the viewer and the screen, as well as the amount of room that is available in the buyer’s home. Ultra-large versions of OLED, QNED, NanoCell, and UHD TVs are all currently on the market.

There is a greater variety of options than ever before across all of our TV brands, making it simple to discover the TV that is ideal for you in an ultra-large size that is complementary to the room in which you plan to place it.

See, Hear, and Feel Everything with Dolby Atmos

The most recent Dolby technologies are pre-installed in LG OLED televisions. While Dolby Vision IQ makes use of metadata and the built-in light sensors of televisions to enhance picture quality according to the type of content being viewed and the environment in which it is being viewed, Dolby Atmos concurrently provides multi-dimensional immersive sound.

When combined, these two factors create a strong experience that makes watching a movie feel more like it actually happened. This expanded cooperation with LG brings both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to provide outstanding experiences that consumers can see, hear, and feel.

LG and Dolby share a passion for bringing the finest possible audio and visual experiences to life, and this expanded collaboration with LG brings both of these technologies to life.

    How LG makes gaming better

A new degree of immersion brought to you by LG TV will allow you to experience your favourite games in a way that has never been possible before. No matter if it’s an OLED, a QNED, or a NanoCell. A perspective that is unlike any other will bring your fantasy setting to completion. Imagine what would be possible if the most cutting-edge TV was combined with the most advanced and potent Xbox console.

On TVs that are compatible with Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos, you will experience greater immersion, rapid response times, and smooth graphics. Four HDMI 2.1 ports provide more connection options for more serious players who use both a console and a personal computer. Put yourself in a position to win and take advantage of your maximum ability.

Game Optimizer offers optimised settings for a variety of game genres, such as first-person shooters, role-playing games, and real-time strategy games, in order to improve the overall gaming experience for players of all types. You will have greater control over the picture and sound settings because you can access everything in a single location.

Additionally, the VRR, NVIDIA G-SYNC, and AMD FreeSyncTM technologies can be toggled on and off. Because of this additional control, all of your games will be clearer and fluid, with significantly reduced instances of lag, stuttering, and tearing.

    OLED’s Sustainability

OLED televisions from LG are designed to be more cutting-edge and eco-friendly. The ultimate goal of LG is to better the lives of its customers and to have a positive impact on the world around them by utilising cutting-edge technology. Because they include self-lit pixels, LG OLED televisions may be manufactured without using backlights and with fewer components than conventional televisions.

Because they contain less harmful compounds, they produce less pollution to be released into the indoor air when they are in use. In addition, when they are disposed of, LG OLED TVs produce less trash and have a high rate of recycling. The TV sets and panels do not contain any cadmium, and their production is more efficient, requiring less parts and resulting in a greater recycling rate than that of LED TVs.

In addition to this, the panels do not include any indium phosphide, and the plastic components have just a trace amount of flame retardants.

LG could be developing a 6G network

Final remark of LG’s Product Manager

The product manager Seok continued, “hands-on experience is necessary, I recommend seeing it in person because a TV is typically the room’s major design focal point. An immersive experience is provided by a larger display. Ultra-large TVs will continue to be popular as long as people use them for a variety of activities, such as video calls, gaming, exercising, home training, etc.”

“TVs help shape the living room culture, so purchasing a new set is like an investment for the next 10 years. We will continue to focus on these aspects as we plan for future TV products. I believe LG TVs will continue to be at the centre of home entertainment.”

The Fouani Showrooms and other licenced dealers across the country all stock LG TVs, which can be purchased at prices that won’t break the bank. OLED televisions are available in (88-77-65-inch), QNED televisions are (86, 75, 65-inch), NanoCell televisions are (75, 65-inch), and UHD televisions are (86, 82, 75, 70, 65-inch). You can also access these televisions through the official LG website, which can be found here.

  • How Spotify, Apple Music work in Nigeria

How Spotify, Apple Music work in Nigeria

Streaming music is becoming more popular all over the world, and Nigeria is no different. Many platforms now make it easy to stream many songs at once instead of downloading them or finding hardware to store audio files.

Apple and Spotify are two of the most popular paid streaming services that let music fans listen to their favourite songs and acts with just a few clicks around the world.

Spotify uses an algorithm to make choices based on what users like to listen to and what new music and podcasts they find every day.

Also, it lets subscribers connect with Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Samsung, Tinder, Google Maps, Nike, and other platforms and apps.

On the other hand, Apple Music gives its subscribers personalised ideas, curated playlists, and access to a huge library of more than 75 million songs.

Users can also watch music videos, listen to live radio stations, and access special material like artist interviews and behind-the-scenes pictures.

But paying for subscriptions is a problem for many Nigerians who use these sites. This is because the usual ways to pay in Nigeria might not work with these foreign services.

Nigerians can pay for their Spotify and Apple Music subscriptions in a number of ways, even if they don’t have a credit card. This piece will talk about three of the most common and easy ways.

What Spotify accounts are paid for?

The Spotify Free model is limited because Spotify makes money by charging users for premium streaming fees and charging other companies for advertising space. In the free version, users can watch songs for free, but they have to deal with some restrictions.

However, the paid Premium account is the more convenient option, as it removes the constraints of the free version. Users can listen to high-quality music, use their phones as much as they want, and access playlists both online and offline. There are different types of Spotify Premium, such as Spotify Premium Student, Spotify Premium Duo, and Spotify Premium Family (6 people).

3 methods for paying for subscriptions

It’s important to know that Apple Music’s streaming service is not totally free, but new users can get a three-month free trial. Users must pay a monthly subscription fee to keep using the service after the trial period is over. But you don’t need a subscription to listen to Beats 1 radio or other material that is free.

    Credit/Debit card

If there were a Naira debit or credit card, it would have been one of the fastest ways to pay for an Apple or Spotify subscription. However, most Naira MasterCards that banks have given out in the past have not worked for some reason.

But because there isn’t enough foreign currency, the CBN has had to stop overseas transactions on MasterCard and Visa debit cards in Naira. Your Naira bank cards (MasterCard and VISA) won’t let you buy or sell things outside of Nigeria.

But ALAT by Wema recently started letting Spotify users pay for things with its debit card.

If there were no limits at all, these are the steps you would need to take to set up your payment method on Apple:

    • Click on your personal picture in the App Store on your device.
    • Tap on “Payment & Shipping.”
    • Click “Add Payment Method” and put in your card information.
    • Check that your payment address is correct, then click “Save.”
    • Follow these steps to set up your payment method on Spotify:
    • Open the Spotify app on your computer and click “Premium” at the bottom of the screen.
    • Tap on “Upgrade.”
    • Choose how you want to pay and enter your card information.
    • Check that your payment address is correct, and then click “Start My Spotify Premium.”

It is advisable to confirm with your bank whether your card can be used for international transactions.

    Virtual card

A virtual card is a digital version of a physical credit or debit card. It allows you to make online transactions without exposing your real card details. In Nigeria, there are several virtual card providers, such as Paga and Barter by Flutterwave, that you can use to pay for your Apple or Spotify subscription.

To use a virtual card, you need to follow these steps:

    • Sign up for an account with a virtual card provider of your choice.
    • Fund your account with the amount you want to use for your subscription.
    • Generate a virtual card with the amount you funded.
    • Use the virtual card details to make payments on Apple or Spotify.

Using a virtual card is a safe and convenient payment method because it lets you keep your real card details secure. Additionally, virtual cards can be generated quickly, making them a great option for making urgent payments.

    Gift Cards

Gift cards are another way to pay for access to these platforms, though Nigerians don’t use them as often.

To do this, you’ll need a valid iTunes account and to add the amount of your gift card to your account. Once you’ve done that, you can pay for your Apple Music subscription with the remaining amount. This is how:

Step 1: Open your device’s App Store or iTunes Store.

Step 2: Tap your profile picture or the “Sign In” button in the upper-right part of the screen.

Step 3: Sign in with your Apple ID and password.

Step 4: Tap on “Redeem Gift Card or Code.”

Step 5: Scan the gift card with your device’s camera or type in the code by hand.

Step 6: You can pay for your Apple Music subscription once the amount has been added to your account.

It’s important to know that Spotify gift cards can only be used for regular subscriptions, not student subscriptions. Follow these steps to use your Spotify gift card to pay for your account:

On your Mac or PC, go to www.spotify.com/redeem and log in to your Spotify account.

Type in the PIN or code that’s printed on the back of your gift card. Use the zip code from the address you put in when you started the account.

When you’re done, click “ENTER CODE.”

The money on the card will be taken off of it and put into your account. Then you can pay for your subscription.

Users who have a Spotify gift card can only add up to 18 months of premium payments at once.

On Spotify.com, you can only use gift cards that have already been enabled. If you bought your card at a store but haven’t activated it yet, you may need to go back to the store and ask them to activate it. If your card doesn’t work after 24 hours of being activated or the code is hard to read, you can contact Spotify’s customer service to make a complaint.

How to Open a Verified PayPal Account in Nigeria for Free (Updated)

    MTN Apple Music recharge

So, in April, MTN Nigeria announced a collaboration with Apple Music that allows its users to subscribe to the streaming platform with airtime instead of virtual cards, which commenced on April 14, 2023.

Also, as part of the official agreement and announcement, MTN and Apple Music offer Nigerian users a six-month trial period before they can easily pay with airtime recharged to their phone numbers.

So, Apple Music fans with Android phones or iPhones will be able to use their MTN lines to sign up for Apple Music for $1,000 per month. They can do this through SMS, USSD, or the myMTN app.

It’s pretty easy in these ways, and you don’t even need a bank card:

Via USSD: Dial *447# > Click on “New Services.” Choose 4 > Apple Music Choose 1 if it’s free and 2 if it’s not.

Via SMS: Send “Music” to 8000 to sign up for a regular service.

Via web: MTN Play site, mtn.ng, MyMTN App

After the SMS, you’ll get a page that asks you to confirm twice that you agree. After you agree by clicking “Accept Renewal,” you’ll get an SMS from 8000 telling you how to use the service.

In the end, no matter how you pay for your accounts on these platforms, make sure that your transactions are safe and that your information is not sent to a third-party link you don’t trust.

  • Wi-flix debuts in Zambia in collaboration with MTN

Wi-flix debuts in Zambia in collaboration with MTN

Wi-flix, a streaming service that has been popular in Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria and is now available in Zambia, is one of the fastest-growing services in Africa. This comes a few months after Netflix said it would add Dolby Atmos to allow users with devices that support Dolby Atmos to get a better spatial sound experience.

The streaming platform has teamed up with MTN, a big name in mobile phone service, to offer customers in Zambia deals that can’t be beaten. Wi-flix is excited to give its customers access to MTN’s latest 5G high-speed internet connection.

The goal of this exciting relationship is to make streaming even easier and more fun for subscribers. This will improve the customer experience and give viewers the best entertainment options possible.

Some of the other unbeatable packages that come with this new expansion, especially for MTN Zambia customers, include access to thousands of hours of unlimited premium content and daily, weekly, and monthly data packages starting as low as K1 + free 50MB for a daily package, K5 + free 150MB for a weekly package, and K20 + free 300MB bonus.

    Wi-flix expansion

The company’s latest plan to grow is based on its big goal to become the best source of information for people on the African continent and in the diaspora. In order to reach even more viewers, the company is growing and becoming a major player in the industry. This will help it reach its Ambition 2025 goal of being the top digital solutions provider for Africa’s progress.

Wi-flix Co-Founder and Chief Operations Officer Bright Yeboah said, “Our presence in Zambia is instrumental in our mission to democratize content and ensure affordable premium entertainment is accessible to everyone on the continent and in the diaspora.” Filmmakers, directors, and aggregators in Zambia and elsewhere with excellent content can also monetize their works on our streaming platform.

“We are excited to expand our footprint, which has seen tremendous growth in such a short amount of time,” he said, “with the addition of more content to our catalog for our audiences and meet the growing demand for premium content, establishing Wi-flix as the home of the best of entertainment anywhere, at any time, and on any device.”

Google Closes Stadia Cloud Gaming services in the UK

    Wi-flix launched one year ago

Wi-flix made news in May of last year when it said it had more than one million paid users in just over a year since it started. As a thank you to its loyal subscribers, the streaming platform gave more than 1,000 viewers 48 hours of free access to all their favourite films, series, children’s material, and live TV shows.

According to the research, Netflix’s milestone number of subscribers was likely reached because the platform is always adding new material and making new distribution deals. The company’s growth rate went up by a lot in the first quarter of 2022, with income going up by 51% and subscriptions going up by 61%.

Netflix’s rapid growth shows how committed the platform is to providing high-quality entertainment to fans in Africa and around the world. Even though there are problems like limited connectivity and high data costs, the number of active streaming platforms in the region has grown a lot in the past few years. This is because the continent is getting used to the global trend away from traditional networks.

Netflix has become a big player in an industry that is changing quickly. With its new strategy plan, it’s hard to say what will happen to the platform in the future, but things look good. Netflix will keep pushing the limits and setting new standards for streaming services all over the continent, no matter what.
