For the first time, ALX, a global training provider for the technology sector, is offering a cohort, particularly for women in Africa.
Up to 50,000 women in Africa could gain from the project with the help of ALX’s “WomXn and Tech” cohort. The topic of the UN International Women’s Day, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality,” is said by the corporation to have served as inspiration for the concept.
By doing this, ALX demonstrates its commitment to bridging the digital gender gap in Africa in order to encourage more women to enter the field of technology as well as to close the gender gap in creativity and the development of solutions for a more just world.

The ALX programme follows the recent acquisition by ALI
Globally, barely 5% of software engineers are women. Even considering the worldwide average, there is a vast gender disparity that needs to be addressed, given that there are an estimated 690 000 software engineers in Africa.
ALX will take the required effort to decrease this huge gap via this female cohort. As a result of its cooperation with the Mastercard Foundation, ALX is able to provide sponsored internships to thousands of young women who otherwise meet the program’s qualifying requirements.

The programme has been made possible following the recent acquisition by ALI of leading Silicon Valley institution Holberton Inc. With a focus on empowering women with top-tier digital skills and knowledge, ALX has grown to become one of the world’s largest software engineering training organizations.

According to Julien Barbier, co-founder of Holberton and Chief Product Officer at ALI, “imagine a world where every voice is heard, where every perspective is valued, where every person can contribute their unique talents and insights to create the best possible products and services.” This is the world we must strive for in technology, where women make up half of all users but are often excluded from the engineering process.
“By tapping into the entire potential of our various communities, we not only stimulate innovation but also unleash the unlimited ability and creativity of all Africans,” he says.
The cohort has been created to support women from the beginning of their education to the end of their professional careers as they join The ROOM, ALI’s global network of top technology professionals.
“Our goal is to encourage more African women to choose a career in technology”. Sharon O’Donnell, ALI’s Chief Experience Officer, has said that the company is making an effort to support young women so that they may go into technology-related fields or find their own successful technology-related enterprises.
